Hi all.
I'm new here and fairly new to FE in general and was hoping to get some advice on my project.
I have a Topspeed 2 sitting on the shelf collecting dust. I badly want to convert this hull into electric.

Heres what i have: TS2 hull with adjustable mount at the stern.
K&B lower unit lightened and modified to accept electric.
Various props (X438/3-P215-P220)
Brushless marine ESC 110 amp/2-4 LiPo/6-12 Nimh.
Futaba Radiogear (3PK/servos etc.)

Heres what i wish for: Descent runtimes (5-6 min.)
Descent speeds (about 40 mph)
Prefer to run LiPo's
Hoping to use all the parts i already have.

I've read alot about converting the TS2, but the problem is i read so much that i lose track on the way. As i stated i wish to use most of the parts i already have.
The main issue is the motor and battery choices. I was thinking maybe of a Feigao 9XL. But what battery's do i chose then?
I don't want a SV27 motor as i see people upgrade from that in a short time.
A local dealer has a 540XL size motor with 3000Kv, but that is all the info he has on it. He also has in order some similar sized motors with 1800Kv. But i don't know what to do really.

Does it seem like im on the right track or am i just running around in the dark here?
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards Thomas

I built a TS2 , 9XL , 4S1P 5000 20C, Hydra 120. 47 on Radar. Lipo Over heating problems with a X438-3 , Run time less then 2-1/2 min racing a mile with Mod 3.5 nitro tunnels. A better prop choice is a X437 -2 BL
Your more likely get the speed and run time your targeting with the SV27 motor .

I see. I think 2 min runtime is a little short since im not racing, just playing.
Maybe the SV27 motor is the right way to go. But what if i have a motor with the same Kv as the SV but a little bigger size?

By the way, i see the SV motor is out of stock. Does anyone know if the Feigao 540 13L is a proper replacement? I see the Kv is about the same.

The key to motor (and prop) selection is to stay within an amp draw range so you get the runtime you desire. But, I think you need to lower your expectations to, say, 3 minutes runtime. That's a good target when using 1P Lipos.

Keep your amp draw at around 40- 50 amps, be happy with a setup that will get into the high 30's on 4S1P 5000 Lipos and you will have a much better shot at success with this boat and your equipment.

The SV 27 combo can do it, but so can other motor/esc choices. Ballpark: 14 L and an 80 amp ESC (or 120 amp) or even a 10 XL. The Blackjack motor can, too, from what I've heard.

A large number of top FE racers are having a blast with that boat with the SV 27 setup.

I have TSII with sv motor and 5000mah 4s1p. Radar 40mph and 6 min run time with octura x445 prop. Hope this helps.

Maybe i will land on the SV motor anyways. But why are people using such large props? Wont i get any speed with my X437/3?

I have a Mamba Max 540/5700Kv Laying around. I dont want to use it on this boat, but can i use it as a mock up when fabricating mounts for a SV or a feigao?
Is the bolt patern the same on all 540 motors?

"But why are people using such large props? Wont i get any speed with my X437/3?"

The SV motor has lots of torque. I've run them in monos , sport hydros , and the TS 2.
In all cases the X445 - X546 2 bl was faster , less heat then the X437 - X637 3 BL.

look at the pitch difference . X437 2.072" p
X445 2.478 "p .46" more pitch P

" Is the bolt patern the same on all 540 motors?"

Most have the same pattern , I don't know about the Mamba Max >

Thanks a lot for the replies.
I think i will go for the SV.
But i have to wait for the store here to open again. In the meantime i can look for batteries.

Well, i waited for the web shop to open again this week only to find out that the SV is still out of stock. I am considering a Feigao 13L or maybe find it somewhere else( witch is not preferable as i must order some other stuff from here).
