I'm already planning on this, Fred, and hope it turns out to be a HUGE, in FE terms, event...

Please note that, based on the rules, N1-Mono is only a 3-Lap on a 1/6th mile course, not 6. No reason that a current N1 Mono can't go 6, and at a 30+mph clip, but that's what the rules say...

I am planning my trip already! It is back in my home state of MI! An hour away from my parents house and right before 4th of July!

Fred,

Just so people know... I have THREE hulls that I will be setting up for N1 Mono... My primary hull, of course, and two revisions of the same. I plan on making them available for two entrants to race in N1 Mono... Not to fill the class... not too worried about that, but just to give a couple others the chance to experience the THRILL (hehehehe) of racing the current generation of N1. It's not too far off the N2 classes of old... Figure on speeds of 34-36mph in heat racing trim...

As we get closer to the event, I'll figure out how to offer these up. Want to make sure I have them ready to go first.. :)

Thanks Fred.

Darin, you may as well build 6 so we can guarantee a class. All 6 will only take up half a hard case golf bag leaving room for your tunnel.

TG

Not a chance... NO WAY am I building any new ones... WildThing Rev 3 is the last one I build... I just happen to have them so I figured I'd have them available...

Maybe I'll give my primary boat to one of the kids that can race and see if I can coach them to a National Championship!

Hey Fred...no Open Cat???

fas
09-20-2013, 10:14 AM
John

with this being a nationals we have to list the class as namba class with that being said

T-offshore specs boat must be 60" or under any electric power can go from 6-10s 12000 mah limit 4 minute run time
T-Cat same as above just a 6 lap sprint

these are what we called open cat and open offshore at the Michigan cup last year

Duhhh..makes sense..thanks Fred.

Darin Jordan
09-20-2013, 10:52 AM
Guys... just for reference... Catamaran is now an official class in NAMBA.

8. CATAMARAN

a) General Rules

i) Catamaran rules are intended as a supplement to the General Racing
rules of NAMBA. In the case of conflict, the Electric Catamaran
rules will prevail.b) Hull Specifications

i) Catamarans shall be a stand-off scale version of an Offshore
Catamaran style of hull, with two sponsons that normally run the full
length of the hull.
ii) Sponsons are separated and connected together by a tunnel.
iii) Sponsons may have lateral breaks.
iv) Inboard or outboard mounting of the motor(s) is permissible
v) Hull length must conform to those listed in Rule D.2.a in this section
for each Power Specification

Part v) indicates that the class is open to ALL power specifications per D.2.a.

Therefore, N1, N2, P, P-Ltd, Q, and T, are all eligible for a Cat class at a National event.

T=Open, for those of you still waiting for your coffee to brew... :)

Darin,

I believe T is still just Q and T or did that change?

TG

Tyler... Ignore the bottom part... Here is a snapshot of the Power Specifications table...

The bottom was just tinkering for the other thread...

The way I read it... Q is it's own class, and T is it's own class, but T can be run with anything from Q to T...

fas
09-20-2013, 06:42 PM
Yes Darin is right

Q is only 6s with a 10,000 mah limit
T is 6s to 10s with a 12,000 mah limit

so if you have a q-offshore you can run it in t-offshore also, that is what I did at the Michigan cup last year just put in 2-6s 6000 instead of 2-6s 5000
and I won the class running with Pags, haines, tucker, droby it was not easy but I just stayed on the pins so it can be done

Hey Guys,

I was going through the list of classes I would like to run and noticed SV27 is on the list.

Any special rules?

At the 2011 Nats, we ran stock and modified(prop only)

Thanks,

That's the way 05 was. Almost everybody with a boat was there. I only remember bits and pieces of that race. Kind of a blur. I think I raced something. I do remember my wife catering for 65 people every day. Sheeeee's a keeper. I'm now convinced that Brooks was trying to kill me. Him and the Captain. haha 2.5 hours of sleep per night for a week straight. Baked.

That was quite an event. Fun for sure but the the competition was also fierce. Almost every class required a record run to win.

Randy, never again. Completely lost my poop. Still feel like an a$$. What a disaster. Gave myself a time out. Survived the 05 nats and lost it at the 09 nats. Still makes no sense to me.

Al Waters will be here to keep me in line for this gig. My wife wont be catering so there wont be all that prep and running that happened for a week straight before the race. Plus the Elks support is beyond measure. Freddy is the DD and Dave is the chair dude so much less pressure on me. Should be not too bad. I'm excited and it's not even 2014 yet.

Ok

guys and gals signup will open in the morning, you will have to sign up for each day of the event at rcracingevents.com that will be 4 in total if you are racing all 4 days.

You will not be able to pay with paypal for this event through rc racing events

When you sign up I will email you a invoice with your total on it and classes and the paypal address at that time if you want to use paypal you can( the only way to do it with 4 different days)

if a class you want to run is full please email me at fasiewert@yahoo.com and you will be put on the waiting list, if a spot opens up I will go down the list you may or may not get in, the only way to make sure is to sign up early.

after the February cut off more spots may open up then

look forward to seeing everybody in June and talking to you between now and then

250 boat in under 24 hours.......that's...that's...words escape me. (shocking I know) This sucker is 8 months away too.

Darin, really wanna make you head hurt? Take me and PAGS class list and throw in our kids boats too. 13 year old kids aren't building any boats. We're lucky if they can handle plugging in the batteries. Ava is pretty good but Ty can't stand still as along as it takes to start a charger. Many times it went:

"Where is Ty? He's on deck"
"Think I saw him sharking the pool table"
"Somebody go get him please"

I'll likely shift some of my boats over to Fred and make him the victim. Our pits are going to look like a crime scene.

304 bahaha

The plan is to open up more entries in February if another class won't run due to lack of participation like for instance N1 MONO. Otherwise no. The entry numbers are what they are.

This is going to likely be the biggest race most FE racers will have ever seen. In the states that is. We'll have to limit entries somewhere or it will get out of hand. Fred tells me that on paper we have allowed for 630 bouts PR something.

It is for a one time event. If you want to run another Namba event you must pay the balance of the membership.

Hey, Terry... can you fit a Q-Mono in your suitcase?? I didn't think so... Nuff said! :bash: :tongue:

T.S.Davis
10-03-2013, 08:45 AM
No that's true but a model that fits in a suite case wont make the cut in my fleet so it's a non issue for me. I'm not racing anything I feel like I have to smuggle onto a plane. We could bring back N1 crackerbox for ya. That fits in a suite case.

Q mono is another class that I would be very surprised to see get a whole flight worth of boats. I have one but wont sign up for it. Too many other things I'd rather be doing.

T.S.Davis

It's not an exact science.

Say there are 16 slots for a given class and we only get 7 or 8 entries for that class. That means there's an entire heat of boats we scheduled for that didn't fill. We would try to shift those entry slots to a class that people want to run. Q Cat and Q mono haven't received near the interest we anticipated. P Cat still has 18 slots of 24 available. Clear sign we guessed wrong on that. We may pull the trigger early on opening up a class if support is overwhelmingly lopsided. This is why it's important to send Fred an email to be put on the list for a class you missed now and not in spring. Until we get enough guys wanting a particular class to make another heat though it will likely be waiting.

The interesting thing to me is that for all the flapping about missed classes the waiting list hasn't got that many guys on it. I don't know if "send an email" is too complicated or what.

This is also why I was and am still anti N1. I recognize the challenge but nobody really digs it. We offer that class just "because". It takes up slots that someone could have been running a class that has national appeal or at least has some flash and flair. It just doesn't spark interest in the hobby. We get spectators. Nobody asks "what time to the slowest boats run? Wanna make sure I'm in a good viewing spot for some low speed racing."

N1 bashing quota achieved. Back to our regularly scheduled hand wringing.

T.S.Davis
10-17-2013, 09:59 PM
Well, here goes noth'n.....

As most of you know, response to this event has been stellar. Better than we expected to be honest. The mathematics that go with this response have sunk in. None of us wants to be racing into the evening.

Pretty sure our gang is the only FE club that has a point of reference for an all FE race of this magnitude. Here's how it goes...........you get off the water at say 8:00pm having not eaten since lunch. Then clean up, load your gear, go to the hotel, carry all the stuff in you need to wrench for the night........then find some food. Social hour? NOT! It's 11:00pm and you're just getting started preparing for tomorrows heats. Ugh Been there done that. Now do it for 4 days straight. Some might dig that but those that have to make it all work are not on that list.

So to save our sanity and make the pace more tolerable for all we're going to move some of the classes to Tuesday. Yes......that IS a 5th day of racing. Brings the heat counts back to manageable. This should also allow us some wiggle room on the class count caps if needed. Despite tales of hand wringing over the class count caps, as of this typing there are no racers that are on waiting list for a class that I'm aware of so the cap is holding nobody back.

So........the following classes will be moved to Tuesday:
N1 Mono
N2 Mono
SV27
OPC
P Mono
Q Mono

Registration will be closed for a few days while Fred moves everything around to fit the new scheme.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause anyone but we figured better now than waiting.

Come on John. You'll be completely useless that whole week anyway. Dennis and I used to joke about being emotionally crippled for a month leading up to the MCup races.

I'm a bit mentally crippled anyway....:moon:

The Michigan Club rocks. We'll do what is needed.

However - my opinion is - too many classes.

Doug, just for you will drop everything over 4s...........haha Really? "No not really. I can't back that up." I figured since I look so much like Doctor Evil.

Honestly, there were classes Fred and I were certain wouldn't/couldn't/no way/not gonna happen field a heat. Not only did they but they went two heats deep. What the heck!

Doug

you are right we logged 34 and with the normal fill rate at our races we were planning on about 6 classes not running to take us to 28 over 4 days 7 classes a day no problem. with all the classes running that's right so far all the classes have the min number to fill( we are trying to have a 7 boat per heat max) there was a day when we had 88 heats LOL last year at the cup the most we ran was 64.

Just a heads up on sat there will be a total of 20 heats of just P-Limited sport hydro. place in that class and it will make a statement alone, you will have to beat 34 of the top racers from all over.

This is shaping up to be huge as off right now we have 52 racers and 417 boats and its still early

PSFEMBC recovered Greg Schweers' Cobra Tunnel after being at the bottom of Mirror Lake for 2 race seasons... Quite a bit was still functional after some cleanup. He gave it to another club member to put back into action.

Wow isn't this going to be a brilliant event, biggest FE event for a long time. Would love to come over from Brisbane, Australia and have a go and see how us Aussies compare to the guys from the home of FE boat racing, USA. After doing some costings for the trip its not going to happen this time, maybe one day.

Please make sure some pictures and videos are taken, would love to see what i am missing out on.

A heat of N1 cracker I can't even imagine. Hasn't been run since 2005 I think.

Need 6 total. It's not currently on the class list. If you find 6 let Fred know. Maybe he can find a place to put it.

I hate to see anyone put time and effort into it when this is the only place an N1 cracker will ever be seen. 45 or so FE super freaks and 420+ entries in one place and still we're talking about might maybe possibly could scrape together enough guys to field a heat. Those 45 nut cases don't have them. Just doesn't make sense to me.

The rules call for scale.....ish boats I believe. Which would I guess require building something just for the class. For me, I would rather encourage guys to run/build something that has more interest. Something they might run into anywhere else.

Hate to be the bad guy here, but 1/6th Crackerbox is not an official NAMBA class. Terry and Fred have a tiger by the tail with the size of this event, and adding classes is the last thing they need to be doing, especially non-official ones.

I'll take the hit on this one. I don't think 1/6th CB should make the schedule, whether or not 6 guys sign up.

Unfortunately I don't see a class that any of my current builds would fit in, but I'm sure I would just be bringing up the back of the pack anyway...I'm not even sure which knob on the controller steers the boat...

You canadians love us americans, heck you can't even live farther then 15 miles from the us border you love us so much. Move north young man, move north.
We could put a good word in for you at the border if you want, I know you like taking your clothes off in public jon.

Terry, could you put all the cat racers under one tent, I think they need a little extra atention to help their inferiority complex.

T.S.Davis
11-08-2013, 07:40 AM
The only guys I placed were Ray and the guys that have to make 35000 trips to the drivers stand for x,y,z reasons. Oh, and the trailers.

I have spots for 53 guys under the tents but some racers don't actually need spots. Trailer guys and a couple of the kids don't need their own spot so we should have some wiggle room.

I plan to go out to the lodge Sunday for our club meeting. I'll check these dimensions to make sure it all fits. Just need to verify the height of the frame tents.

Need to think of a better load/unload arrangement for gear. Kabota Ken will not be able to keep up with this crowd.

Also have to tackle the fireworks barge. Can't get through there to the launch.

Need a better dock. We have that figured out already. Just need to build it. Not a big deal.

Thought I should ask here though too. Anybody know somebody? My understanding is that Metime has gotten out of this kind of thing.
