I started this build on KBB a while ago I figured I'd get it going here too, so I'm gonna get everyone up to speed as to where I'm currently at. I'm just getting into the FE boating hobby and thanks to Rocstar I'm already addicted. I'm starting my 1st build with the Figtercat Super Daytona, I plan on running twin TP Power 5660's 1100kv on 10s, with 300A swordfish ESC's. I'm sure I'll need plenty of help and guidance throughout the build, thankfully I'm a 30 min drive from one of the best builders around. If you've built one of these and have some tips that could help me along they are greatly appreciated. So lets get this started.

1st step I think I'm going to have ROCSTAR do a CF inlay. Also laid some core mat up in the bow and along the seams.

Just finished up soldering the esc battery leads together and the cap banks. The underside of the top plate don't look so pretty lol :o
and soldering 3-8 guage wires together is a big PIA :frusty:

Nice build. Just as a safety reminder, make sure you are wearing a respirator when you are filing and sanding CF. On a microscopic level, CF dust is like a spear, and when they get in your lungs and blood stream they can cause a lot of damage.

Quick question...are those wires ok to just come through those holes without using grommets?

gixx1k2
09-16-2013, 11:05 AM
I hope so lol, didnt even think about that till u mentioned it. The insulation on 8guage is pretty thick and the ESC's are secured really well so the wires shouldn't move much.

You're right, but for me, I just don't like seeing wire pass through a bare hole.

I will be running the TP 5660's 1100kv on 10s2p on each motor

2p per motor? have you considered 1p? I run my boat with tp 5850 920kv motors on 12s1p packs stay nice and cool.

the TP motors are real powerhouses you're going to like them. how are you going to secure lipos in place?

I wanted to do 2p to get 10,000mah

Just curious why you say "go with a 3 blade"? Have you had good results with them on this hull? What is considered a small diameter? What RPMs and speeds are you experiencing?

X457 should be great. I ran an x465 with this hull was a really fast boat. The super daytona is great those tp motors will put a hurtin on electronics. 10s2p will be very heavy in an already hot setup. 10s1p 5000mah packs would be ideal. These big 100 mph cats use a lot on energy and get hot fast just my 2 cents as I run a similar setup.

I just didn't think 5000 would be enough MAH

so do you run 2-5s in series on each side? or do you have 10s packs? And what brand do you run?

iridebikes247
09-20-2013, 07:27 AM
i just run 2 6s packs in series. a few companies out there sell these monster 10s-12s packs problems arise when charging and it becomes a nightmare if you have to replace a cell. batteries and battery quality is far more important than i wanted to admit when i first got into FE, if you were running very low kv motors you'd be able to use cheap packs.

i use zippy 6s packs and they're not what my setup wants. the more expensive packs discharge more smoothly and don't get nearly as hot so swelling stays down and they last longer. you can spend anywhere from $200 to $800 for a set of packs that run this boat for 5 minutes here are my rec with the best most expensive first

1. http://dinogylipos.com/index.php/product-page/aircraft-batteries/5-cell-65c/5000mah-5s-65c-detail
pick up 4 of these you'll never have a problem

2. http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-60c-5000-5s1p-5555.html
those are a decent alternative

3. http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9964__ZIPPY_Flightmax_5000mAh_5S1P_40C.html
zippy packs are the cheapest obviously, i have never had a problem with one of their packs as long as i didn't discharge below 3.75v per cell.

are you using a lipo sled system?
