Greetings from a new member. I am in the process of building a 1/6 scale model of Miss Supertest III. I build the 1/12 scale kit from Osborn and have based the next build on that. I am currently tweaking the frame to get everything square and true and hope to be skinning it this weekend.

My question is this...what motor should I be looking at to put in her? I was thinking a two or four stoke engine of some sort?

cheers,
corey

This is primarily a FE site, for gas related inquires you should go to jim's rc boat dock.

For that size of boat and if you were intent on running it with gas I would use at least a g26 and up to a 30cc motor.

Make sure you seal both the inside and outside of the boat ( frames and underside of skins) also put lots of floatation in her.

Thnkx kindly...would it be possible to run a boat that size with electric?

Yes it would be possible to run it under electric power if you had the stomach for the sticker shock of a setup.

Most likely over $1000 in batteries and electronics to start.
Would probably need to run on 10-12s and even in a 2p setup ( 37-42volts , 2packs parallel)
What thickness of plywood are you using on the hull as it looks thick at the nose?

Where in Ontario are you located?

The frame is build out of 1/4" ply and I was going to use 1/16" ply to skin the hull. I was also toying with the idea of using aluminium on the bottom of her...but I doubt I will at this point.

I live in Nestleton, just east of Port Perry (Lake Scugog) and north of Oshawa.

Yor boat will be heavy with all of that 1/4 in ply. If you can skin the boat with 1/16 on top and the 1/8 on the bottom.

Drill as many lightening holes as you can in the frame. With a heavier hull it would be advised to run it with gas vs electric.

Save your back after she is all built, as every pound counts.

Just wondering if there is another gas boat forum you might recommend...it seems that I do not meet the membership requirements and am not allowed to join. Not sure what it is I did not meet as my emails inquiring about this have not been answered.

Thnkx again, however I have tried to join the boat dock and I got this email reply from them "Unfortunately your registration at Jim's R/C Boat Dock did not meet our membership requirements. Therefore your registration was deleted. Sorry, Jim's R/C Boat Dock"
