Need some advice, I have some spare 3s 2200mah packs and want a small rig to run in a local river rather than on the boating lake, berm thinking of either of these joysway models or the hobbyking centurion, I like the idea of self righting but the river is always flat calm, I what's everyone's opinion? The offshore warrior looks like the same hull other than being abs but is a lot more money?

I would say that any of the 3 are far too fast for a river, especially with 3S, as they are virtually supersonic. Unless ,that is, the river is exceptionally wide.

Matt the Centurion is the older version of the Joysway Sea Rider cat.

Yeah it's plenty wide enough, I am going to run my 32" twin cat there but only for straight line runs as its not wide enough for fast turns hence owing for a mini

Atomik is rebranding the SMX as the Barbwire. You should probably buy the Barbwire as you'll get much better support.

Unfortunately i dont think Atomik are available in the UK whereas Joysway are everywhere!

No the Venom Barbwire is not sold in the UK, the Joysway boats are imported by Ripmax a large distributors in the UK. They do list quite a lot of spares including spares for the Mono X, quite what they have on the day when you need any spares is another thing as with a lot of large distributors they only tend to reorder a few times a year.

I recently received a new Joysway sea rider cat v3 and couldn't be happier with my purchase. very cheap to buy but quality is not bad and they go hard straight out of the box. I've taken it for a few runs at the local pond and people with bigger boats were very surprised by its speed. Very easy to steer and quite stable. Pitfalls? the standard battery is a bit lame even though its lipo and the supplied charger is really crap. But that wouldn't be a problem for you would it? spare parts are comprehensive and cheap. I would not hesitate to recommend this model for good cheap fun. I've already got some upgrades coming...

Is this the same as the Turnigy centurion from hobbyking? They are only about £80 but I like the self writing feature hmmmm :-s

Matt the Centurion is the old sea rider @ 130mm wide, the newer Joysway version is 165mm wide.

May be wrong, but I don't think that I have seen anything to claim that the Centurion or the Offshore warrior are self righting. Am I missing something?

Offshore warrior 2 and SMX are self righting, centurion (sea rider) isn't

The centurion has a few upgraded parts in it but is a fair bit more expensive too. 80 pounds? I paid 80 aus. for the sea cat with free express postage. That said, I like the look of the Centurion too.

Also, sea cat is self righting. No leaks yet either.

Look no further:http://www.atomik-rc.com/Atomik-Barbwire-17-RTR-Electric-Boat.html?sc=31&category=76751

The Barbwire is your solution. I have both. I set 3 SAW records with the warrior, but for its price you get a LOT of bang for your buck out of the barbwire.

I'm sprung on Joysway boats. I love the X-Blaze, Offshore warrior, Surge crusher, and mono-X as well as the tiny little mono.

Bill ive nearly finished building my X Blaze, running a 3659 size 1900kv edf motor on 6s hoping for some good things knowing these hulls. I also thought of running a Surge Crusher on a hot set up, a club member had one of the slower surge Crushers so saw that run a number of times + lots of vids of some of the Super Surge Crusher versions. Whats your opinion on the Surge Crusher when pushed a bit so to speak. Martin.

Martin, its funny you mentioned my crusher, as it was in my lap getting tinkered as the post came through. I intend to race it this weekend in our district points race provided it corners well.
I alwys made "SAW" passes with it, so I don't know about its cornering ability, but she seems to be able to hold lots of power..

I adore them both. Str9 reaches about 17-20mph once the motor is broken in! Sounds slow but for a boat that fits in your palm thats streaking : )

Yeah, the self righting factor is tough to overlook!
Barbwire is one of the best rtr packages available as far as boats go, and for a micro, its by far the best fun factor/value i've ever seen.
That little boat is well into the 30's possibly close to 40 on a good day

Im looking for a STABLE mini, and the sea rider cat looks like the ticket.
Is there anything more stable available? Fiberglass hull would be nice, CF would be AWSOME!!!
Where in the states can I buy the sea rider cat v3, the 460mm by 169mm?

Timmy
