Despite the less than perfect weather yesterday (knock knock), it was GREAT to get back on the water racing (knock knock). The competition was outstanding (flip in the turn)! I can't wait for our next race!

Hey Tom, wanna try for Wed this week? I know we don't usually have practice Wed after a race but I have the itch bad now. I may hit the retention pond by my house.

I'm good for that. I don't have a key to open but I am usually good just to run something. And I'll stay to close.

HA HA.... I a still working on my punch line!! That was alot of fun. As a matter of fact, it's the most fun I've had in a long time regardless of not finishing those heats! I love "racing"!

Despite having not raced at all myself I still had a great time.

"Racing" and losing is still more fun than not racing though. Watching all of you actually racing was inspiring for me. There were a lot of heats that were deck to deck to deck. SO much fun.

Was I the only one that noticed how well everyone was driving? First race too. Maybe I noticed because I called so many heats. Some jumped starts and a few hicups but not many incedents. Even the new guys were on it. Again, inspiring. Can't wait to get some boats wet.

Thanks for posting Mike. I know that takes time! Geez, in heat two you were about a quarter lap from lapping me and you babied it towards the end!! My gps came back at 52 that race! I either need 62 or learn how to turn. Bob's boat was fast too! Gonna be fun this year.

Looking good I need to run mine more and get some more speed out of it how fast of a speed do you think they are running? I see they run the 6 laps in about 2 min.

6 laps in 2 minutes is an average of 30mph they shoud be going faster than that

I would say the fast boats are running low to mid 50s. I know pete said he ran 52 in a heat.

Well top speed and lap time is quite different thing thats where i would like to see mine run about 50mph

That's true but I timed it and I got a little over 1:30 for 6 laps.

Ok i was just looking at how long the boat runs for a race from launch to finish.

Shooter

Yep....they are about 15 second laps.

My goal is to be about half a lap from the start at 7 seconds....but then the lights turn on, other boats are around, I get excited, and ALL BETS ARE OFF!

15 secs for a spec hydro, is that a surveyed course?

The course is going to be smaller than a surveyed 1/6 mile course. It’s what we can fit on the pond and still have room for racing... I wouldn't say it's grossly short though. Maybe one of the other guys has more input.

Actually I would say that a 15 sec lap is average across the class. Some are running quicker and other just a tick above. Like I mentioned in another post; this class is very competitive for our club.

In the first heat Tom C. nailed the start and was turning 15 sec’ish laps with a heat time of mid 1:30’s. It’s also important to note he was driving in lane 10 on a couple laps and he was peddling it the last 2 laps. Tom has that boat running VERY well and if he can settle it down just a tick, he’s going to be a contender all year long.

In the second heat the first 2 boats jumped the start so they actually did 6 and 7/8’s laps. It’s hard to tell but the fast boat in that heat was turning laps in the 14’s (maybe quicker). The winning time for that heat was 1:32 and change.

It's not surveyed. The apex to apex dim is close though. Once upon a time we measured it but only from the shore. For our club racing it didn't seem super critical that it be dead on. I did turn a 1:08 on that course at one of our races but not with a specky.

The Michigan Cup courses are within a couple inches though.

Guys,

I screwed up. I signed up for the race and spaced out on the date. I went North to visit my brother instead. I was thinking that the race was the following weekend. I guess I had a senior moment.

No problem Jay.

The next race will be posted on RCRacing Events next week.

Just a reminder to all that the May 19th race will be our last club race before the Michigan Cup! Time to dust off the old cobwebs and get back the feel of competition.
