So I got a little bored and decided to test some other motors in the Revolt and post my findings. This gives me more reasons to run rc boats everyday I guess. I plan on running several prop/esc/motor set ups with all findings. I was able to run today and use my Garmin gps trackometer. my revolt has the bulky stock battery tray and the left side turn fin removed and the right side fin is a sv-27 turn fin. The stuff tube was removed and re-installed and reinforced. The flex shaft now spins smoother than silk. The strut is raised 3/8 of an inch from neutral.

So I decided to start with the 2300kv motor first. I have dual water cooling for my revolt as is needed for this kv motor.

Motor: Great Planes Ammo 36-50-2300kv
ESC: Hobbywing Seaking 120
Batteries: Sky Lipo 2 2s 40c 3300mah
Prop: Octura 440/3 Thinned, balanced & sharpened
Timing: 11 degrees

43.2 mph, 5 minute run time, Motor was not that hot, Batteries were were a bit hotter than I would like them to be. Esc was normal but the deans leads were hot.

I honestly expected more speed from this set up first time out. This set up in my UL-1 produces 51mph. I was expecting at least 45mph. I plan to take my teperature probe next time out to get acurate temps. I will increase the timing to 15 degrees and raise the trim tabs slightly to get the boat to run a little more dry. I will try a few other props the next time out but I will not be using anything over 40mm with this motor as I do not want to melt it down.

UPDATE: Ran the revolt today and had her running nice until she stopped. I had melted a motor wire out of its bullet connector. here are the results and the set up used.

Motor: great planes ammo 36-50-2300kv
ESC: Hobbywing Seaking 120
Batteries: sky lipo 4s2p 3300mah 40c
Prop: grim racer 42x55
Timing: 18.75

44.6mph
run time less around 4 minutes

now that I have to solder a motor lead I am going to run some tests with an aquacraft 2030kv motor on 4s and 5s and will post the results

You won't see any noticeable speed increase by changing timing, only efficiency changes. I think you should go back to 11 on timing.

I think you are right. I usually do not run the timing that high but wanted to try it with the motor and the larger prop to see what would happen. The only thing I did this last time out was melt down a connection and go for a swim (weather was nice).

I consistently get 48.7mph with the stock motor &esc and a x545

Update:

Motor : Aquacraft UL-1 2030kv
ESC: Seaking 120A 11.5 timing
Batteries : Sky Lipo 4s2p 3300mah 40c
Prop: Octura 440/3
run time 5:34 (got me a new timer)

I made several passes and reset my gps each time and I averaged 43.2mph. I will have to prop her up a little bit more as all the electronics were cool. I did not bother to take any temp readings as the motor and esc were not even warm. Going to slap on a 42mm then a 45mm and while we are at it a 47mm. I know about the props that people have and their great speeds. I am aiming this thread towards the individual who got a hull and wants to build it up to run and may have parts laying around from another boat.

As a comparison, I'm getting consistent runs at 73.3 kmph (45.5 mph) with:

Motor: Stock AQ 1800kv
ESC: SeaKing 120A
Battery: Thunder Power 4400mAh 4S
Prop: Octura m545
Overall Weight with Battery: 2328g

I know my Revolt is heavier than most. Between the upgraded Hitec HS-5646WP servo, 2 part foam filling the bow, modified battery tray and an extra layer of fibreglass/resin in the accessible areas, I'm sure I've added 200g to the boat. I should have weighed it before the mods.

Is the X545 just S&B or has it been modified?
