Newer Collets for flex cable

I've been looking for quality collets for some boats because the Chinese 5mm-.150" collets leave alot to be desired in trueness.

Octura's are o.k. and inconsistent from my experience.


THESE MBP (http://www.rocketcityracing.com/MBP-Collet-Clutch--5-x-475_p_1712.html) look pretty awesome.

The only problem is they don;t come in 5mm-.150" just 3/16".

How are the Aeromarine collets for trueness?? The ones Steve sells? Hopefully they are better.

Is there anyone that has tried the Aeromarine units or the MBP ones??

I got a set of the MBP 8mm to 1/4" flex, haven't ran them yet but they look killer. From everything I've read about them, people that have used them. Said there is none better out there

I've tried the Aeromarine Collets 3 pc. Seems to run true but not a big fan of it. You really have to tighten it down good to get it to grab the flex with out spinning and then they are a pain to get off, as the brass insert holds on to the flex and does not like to let go. You need to be able to push the flex in to get it to let go and if you run your flex where it already bottoms out in the collet it is a big pain. I wound up going back to the 2 piece stainless steel one.

I don't run anything but the aeromarines, haven't had a problem up to 10 h.p so far..
I use 45% silver solder and flux from welding supply house and a MAPP gas torch on the cut end.

Ray,Joe is real helpful and may be able to have some made in the size you are looking for,not to mention,I would be down for a few or many(already have a few).I can contact him if you like.He really helped me out on my latest Komodo disasterr.

Awesome. I know I want to try the 3/16" one in my P-mono and the 150 in lsh & LSO MG. Thats $100 in couplers!! Yeow!! Buuut, Hydro & Marine doesn't even make the .150 cable size in theirs.

It's really for the smaller boats with higher KV & final RPM. I slowly spin a chinese one and it's visibly waaay out, like at least .0625" Thats noisey and destroys bearins as well as creating HEAT!

MBP collets all the way!!! I have both 8-5mm and 5-5mm, have spun those over 50k with no problem. They run very true, and has a perfect grip on the cable. Best of all, very easy to loosen and pull out cable after each run. Thanks Joe for this great product!!!
