Hey guys,

I have been out of FE for a little while, but due to too many noise complaints....no more gas running.

I recently picked up a 43" Challenger pro that was a gas boat. I am going to convert it to FE. I only do sport running and I am looking for scale-ish speeds mid 30s or low 40s.
I ordered an Atomik V700 Marine Outrunner (http://www.atomik-rc.com/V700-Marine-Outrunner-1100Kv.html) and a seaking 120 amp ESC. I will be running on 6s. I need help picking a prop. I only have big gas props. I know Atomik runs a 54mm 3 blade on their 58" cat with this set up. Is this a good place to start?

This is what I am strating with...

Hello,

I just finished building a 41" boat which was designed for gas and made its conversion to FE. It was my first build but you may find usefull information equipmentwise and some other tips.

http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/showthread.php?38209-DaVette-Aspect-Shallow-42-quot-Hull-New-Build-Motor-selection-and-misc.-help-needed

Good luck with your build!

Fwiw, that is a VERY small motor for your boat. Venom didn't do the best job rigging their boat with gear.

I agree with the above post.

Go to southriver rc and get you a good 5" motor mount. That's what your rails look like. And get you an inrunner motor some thing in the 56mm diameter. And something with a kv in the 8s area would push that boat great

I here what you guys are saying. I'm not looking to set the water on fire. I am trying to use what I have already. If its too slow I can always upgrade. I was thinking of a proteus x524 if and when I do.

a slow running boat is a wet running hull
wet running hulls pull lots of wasted amps.... = heat
and a hull this size, well ....

and the motor from venom is marked up about 3 times

The Proteus 56MM motor was only about 10bucks more with possibly 4 times the power
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Proteus+Motors
the Leo 5692 1340 motor could be run on 6s like your after and with more power than the venom

I didn't pay that for the motor. I paid $50 shipped for a brand new one. Maybe I will just use it in a different boat cause I just ordered a Proteus 520 (http://www.rcecho.com/SKYRC-Proteus-Water-Cooled-X520-730KV-1280KV-Brushless-Motor-for-Marine-IM680.html) and a southriver mount. That should run on 6s with room to grow. Now, on to the prop. Whats a good place to start?

Here is a quote on props. for this size of boat from fellow boaters:

"Probably up to 65mm 2 blade max. You could try a X457, X460, X462, X465, X460/3"

I will be running on my 42" boat a 52mm and a 59mm for starters.

With the proteus 520 depending on what voltage you run it on. Of not start any higher than p 55or60mm prop

Nice looking boat, :tiphat:
I have that v700 motor,
And want to try it in my 36"pro boat shockwave modded to FE.

I am still planning on just 6s. I already have those and the esc can only handle 6s. My plan it to run it on the delta/1280 setting.

A little progress has been made. The aluminum tray in the back will not be there. It is just sitting there to hold up the esc right now.

Nope. I left it alone.

That to much free flex showing, 1/2 " is what your going to need to keep from balling up the cable.

Well thankfully there are multiple holes from running different gas setups with and without clutches so moving it back is not a big deal. I will have to drill new holes for the front of the mount. This is the next hole back. I think it will work just fine.

Looks good,
Or you could flip the front mount over to in the hole it was in.
But not sure looking at it from hear.
The water jacket looks better like that to,
Just make sure to run the in water line to the lower jacket nipple,
And the top nipple for the exit flow.

Just make sure the flex goes straight into the tube with out touching it. You might have to slot the tube holding crossbar and adjust it.

......and now, back to the build............

I need help picking a prop for this bad boy. I have everything ready to run her except a prop. I have a back cut 3 blade gas prop that is 62mm. Is that too big to start with with this set up?

lenny
03-17-2013, 08:39 PM
I would start with a x452 and see what the does for temps and running.

Fluid

I agree with Lenny about starting small, although the 52mm may be too small to plane well. You'll just have to try it. That motor should handle a 55mm to 58mm prop, but a 62mm 3-blade would be a stretch. Start small, run for one minute (timed!), bring it in to check temps, send it out for another minute, etc. This takes time to do but with your setup and virtually no experience by others it is the safest way to proceed.
