Hey I just realized fightercat has a decent sized 5518 cleaver prop 3/16 and they sell counter rotating stuff as well. I am using the props in my FC super daytona (57" boat next to my name on here). Anyway running 11s1p per side, c/r flex shafts, leopard 5692 730kv dual motors, swordfish 240s. I have x457 props right now curious how will my boat perform with the big cleavers? I have never run this style prop so any help would be great thank you.

I ran a pair of 5018 FC props in my cat that went 102 mph. I think there very good props for the right application.

Cleaver means rough start but smooth top end right?

On mine it cavitated very little and got with the program pretty fast.

I had no cavitation with my 5018/3's from FC. Here's a clip

will I achieve higher top speed with the cleaver prop 5518 as opposed to an x457? The x457 is current prop I have been throwing around the idea of running 11s1p per side with x465 props but will wait for my eagle tree data logger before experimenting with my electronics potential. Thanks guys!

the 1.8's should yeild higher speed but at a higher amp load. The 3 blades also up the amp load. Keeping track with an ET is good to experiment with.I have lots of logs from my Twin there with 4518's,447's,5017's,and the 5018's.With the ET you should be able to prop up based on the wattage rating and what you are comfortable running it at.

Thanks a lot. I will get an eagle tree before just wingin it lol. My boat is quite heavy so i don't want to risk it.? If all goes well x465 props are next may need to go 5698 motors though.

Just try the larger prop on a lesser cell count, get your data then go up one cell. This should give you an idea of what to expect. This is what I did with my Shocker to get it built up to 75mph safely(meaning no:flame42:) Mind you I now have a huge collection of twin sets from 442-5518/2 blades. And remember,if a given 2 blade prop pulls 80 amps the equivelent 3 blade will pull 120 amps.

Hi i have read this post and was wondering if running 5517/3 stainless with the 56" cat is a good set up? The motors are 5694 motors that are 1200kv and I will be running 6s sport running and for speed I will run at 8s 35500 rpm. I know this seems high but I run this motor in my 1/5 4x4 buggy with great results and temps and run times are very good. Running at these high rpms has me wondering if I will have problems with big props, such as the 5517/3 props. Could you give your thoughts to this?

Comparing how a motor performs in a car versus a boat is a true apples and oranges comparison. Just like full scale applications, boats put a LOT more strain on the motor than a car/truck/plane does. The size 5694 sounds appropriate, but the quality/brand of the motor can make a huge difference, especially when pushing the equipment.

A 56" cat will need large props - are they counter-rotating to eliminate prop walk? On 8S your motors will not be turning 35,500 rpm. Depending on the quality of your packs, the true Kv of the motor and the load (prop size and hull drag) you will more likely be turning around 30,000 rpm - in theory. That's around 80 mph so keeping the hull down on the water, surviving a crash, and finding smooth enough water will be the challenges. But if you get there it will be fun!

Thx for the information. I'm shure that the motors are the least of my worries with this build that I got my self into. working with the boat to get the most from the motors is what I will be working on.:frusty:
