We went out today at noon, Gas price was $3.16, I said at that time we will fill up when we get back from out day trip.
At 6:30 it was up to $3.26, 10 cents in 6 hours.

hey ray that sure looks like it lol....strut depth ...prop size.... and balance point.....my motor is one motor lenth farther back then yours but i think batteries can make up for that....everything else is about the same as yours....except i used a flat strut....i can always use a dremel on it and make it round later lol...thanks...

charging batteries now..yuk hours of sitting watching tv and waiting for the beap beap

Balance is 1" behind the sponson transoms. Set the strut depth so the afterplane is parallel to the table top. Reed is using a 42x55 with mods from Mark Sholand (Props-4-U).

So to continue a discussion here rather then cloud up the run day reports... Chris and I had a discussion last night about the comment Bill made about new members and a probation period. Chris and I came up with a probabtion period idea that prohibits a "green" boater from racing and is limited first to test n tune and race day open waters. I say green meaning an unexperienced boater. The new "green" member MUST have an experienced driver at his side at all times coaching him on what and what not to do. Somone who claims experience or immediately shows propper driver etiquette we can allow to race if we all agree. Although we have been experiencing an issue w/ one of our new members in sporatic wreckless driving, I have to admit, its all of out faults. At all times someone needs to be spotting anyone who is on the water, and especially a new guy. we know from first hand experience, saying something and walking away isnt having any effect.

Ill be there but floating lightly.... Probably just my new LSO mystic to see if I can get her more dialed in to compare w/ the MG... I havent had it in the water since TNT in Jan so it still has a lot of tweaking needed.

And Chris, Im sorry I dropped the ball and forgot about your mounting pad for the Pursuit servo. you still need it?

bill34207
02-07-2013, 08:05 PM
I'll be coming pretty light myself. Think I'll bring along the big mono since it's been a while and maybe the Cheetah depending on the wind/weather. I need to replace the stuffing tube in my SC (or maybe try putting a liner back in it) and haven't even started fixing the Pursuit yet. Just have got the parts in for it.
And now it's reaching the point where I have to re-arrange my room just to prep a boat. (Ever stop and say to youself "how in the world did I ever accumulate so much shh" )
I built myself a Scimitar last week last week (another reason for not working at the Pursuit) and now it's occupying my boat prep stand. Had to temprarily park it on my bed just to prep the mono this evening. Flies nice though, I maidened it Sunday but no video.

Well, got four boats prepped and the recovery boat battery is charged. Now all I have to do is finish charging running batts tomorrow.
I'll try to keep an eye out on the badges Scott. I was thinking about trying to do a recovery boat orientation, too. I hate seeing people get in it push off from shore and then try to figure out how to lower the motor. If we're going to keep the motor working right we really need to teach people how to lift it back out and turn it off when close to the bank too.

I think it would be great if we all put our heads together and drew up a basic set of rules/guidleines for our club then posted it on the website too. Here's my installment.

Recovery boat operation
1: No person other than a club member is to attempt operation of the boat.
2: Any club member that wishes to help with running the boat must first go through an orientation on it's operation, and be signed off by one of the senior officers (members?). (In this case I'd suggest Chris, Scott, Ray and myself since we're all pretty good with it and Brian's sort of out of commission for now)
3: If you are uncomfortable in the water and cannot swim do not even attempt to use it. (we really don't need any drownings in our group and Ackerman is plenty deep enough to do it in).

4: Not really as part of the rule, but... This is not being written to discourage anyone from using the boat. Being one of it's main operators I want to encourage eveyone that will to do so. We just need to do it safely and in a manner that helps keep the equipment alive. (Not to mention it will mean less trips out for me.)

We had a couple of gas guys show up today and we let them run by themselves. Sorry Scott. I semi tried but couldn't really enforce members only. I told them it was a public lake and we couldn't stop them from running but they couldn't run with us. And then....
I kind of wish someone had shot video of their second run. That's when I took my little DF-33 P mono out and spanked both of them, HARD. :roflol:

Nothing wrong with that. They can run with us as long as they pay the fee and like u already mentioned, we givem a spankin. As for gas , we would just have to tell them its not permitted. We don't meed gassers getting us in trouble as a club w the county.... but I'd think those chances are slim to none.

Oops. I posted the video in the wrong thread. Probably just as well anyways. I didn't collect a fee (although Rich came up and gave us another $10.00 to run his Spartan). They had their own recovery vessel and other than the noise concern I would have no problems with them being there.
It is a public park and told them if they came back again it would be better to come back when we're not there unless they remember to have their NAMBA cards with them. Told them we run the 2nd and 4th Sundays, too. If they create a problem on their own, it should not be held against us since we're not affiliated with them.

tiqueman
02-24-2013, 06:35 PM
Even w/ thier NAMBA cards, we dont wantt hem to become a habit. As you said in otehr words, 'we" as a club need to follow the county rules. And technically, if we are there, and they are running with us on the course, we are now affiliated... so, the a$$ kicking will have to take place other than on our course. Which kinda sux but.... damn rules

Hey Terry. I meant no disrespect with what I said and don't have a working knowledge of how many years the Waveblasters have been doing the Shootout. I just started boating in 2009 and my 1st trip over there was shortly before the 2011 Nats for a test n tune day. That's why I said at least a couple before the FE Nats. I was there for last years event but don't have a plaque to check for what it was called.
I wish our bunch could get well organised enough to work with your group and try to get a series going with our lake in it.

Actually I find it funny that Ken didn't realize it said third, although I got an email from him yesterday that the official date announcement would be upcoming ?
I'm so confused................... ?
It's hard to get enough people together to have a race, It is a lot of work, most have no idea as to what it takes.
Thats probably what happened here, Ken had a gazillion things going on at the same time?

Hello West Coast Racers,
At our last club meeting we discussed having our annual Spring Shoot-out
on the weekend of May 4th and 5th. That looked like a great weekend and
we were just waiting on some return calls from the other clubs to make sure
that were not any other race conflicts .
Well as things always go there are more than a few prospective Shoot-out
racers with commitments to other races that same week-end.
I looked hard again at the calendar and also spoke with Rick Workman.
We think we would like to try scheduling this race on May 18th and 19th.
I put out an email to our club on Friday and got only a few replies, but all
said that they had no conflicts.
I did send a preliminary draft flyer out with that email just to give everyone an
idea of the weekend schedule, but that seemed to be taken as an official
announcement which it was never intended.

Please reply to this thread with any and all comments. We would like to
announce this race as soon as possible, so take a brief minute and reply back
right away whether this is a good or bad date with you personnel schedule
and if there are any things that may also be in conflict.
We plan to wait till our next scheduled club race on March 17th to finalize
this or any other decided dates unless we get 100% agreement before then.
Thanks for your help &
Enjoy your week,
Ken Haines :bounce:

Welcome guys. As Chris said, the 14th is the next scheduled run. It will be a test n tune day. You can follow our events on our events page on our club website at wfmbc.com
We are a NAMBA affiliated club (North American Model Boat Assoc) Namba.com which offers a set of rules and regulations, explains each class and most importantly provides each member a liability insurance. To be an official wfmbc member, we require our membership dues plus the namba certificates which one aquires through namba. Non-members of either are asked to pay a $10.00 "splash fee" per day, that they run.

Hope to see you folks out there. We have an outstanding club with new members monthly. We are a very friendly bunch and do not mind answering questions, helping set up boats, giving tips etc to help your boat run as competitive as it can. I dont think any of us have any "big secrets" We let everyone know :beerchug:

I was doing something dangerous today (thinking) and had a thought. :flame42:
Since we're getting back into spring, I think it would be a good idea to go and broadcast treat the parking lot at the lake for fire ants.
If it's ok I can go and pick up dome stuff and maybe get it done this weekend. And, the club can pay me back for the ant killer.
Since we're not running this weekend planning on going down to SRQ and fly some on Sunday (unless it's a crosswind kind of day). It would be pretty easy for me stop by the lake and do it on my way back home.

Lets discuss a possible work day at the next meet.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
I did make it by the lake Sunday and distributed 11 pounds of fire any killer. It didn't really go as far as I thought it would. Basically treated from about the concrete slab on the east side down to the last palm tree toward the west end. This was on the lake side of the gravel road only. If you want I'll pick up another bag Saturday and bring it down Sunday since we're running (weather permitting).

Looks like the rain must have spawned some algae growth too. There were clumps of fresh green goo all along the shoreline.
I meant to get back in here sooner and mention there was an older gentleman that pulled in while I was there. He's go a big paddle wheeler he's wanting to part company with. If anyone is interested in a big (filled the back seat of his car) scale "Creole Queen" I suggested he bring it back this Sunday.

bill34207
04-11-2013, 09:24 PM
Right now it's looking like we have a 50/50 chance for this Sunday. Wind doesn't look too bad early morning but around 2:00 PM it's supposed to kick up pretty good out of the south.

bill34207
04-12-2013, 07:54 AM
Just checked the wind report again. Now it's showing around 14 mph from the SE at 11:00 AM. Early morning still looks pretty good though. Are we going to try it?

tiqueman
04-12-2013, 03:06 PM
I say we call it tomorow mid day. Looking like its going to be blowin? Lets see how long this front stays stalled

bill34207
04-13-2013, 08:44 AM
Not much difference in the report so far other than a wind speed increase as the day goes on. http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KSRQ&state=FL
Around 6 from the east at 8:00 AM, 14 from the SE at 11:00 AM, 19 from the SSE at 2:00 PM and peaking out around 20 from the South at 5:00 PM
Shame we aren't running today instead.

I actually had a pretty good day today. The water conditions were way better than I expected. Found out my Sprintcat will run a three minute heat (although my 3 year old Zippy's were down to around 3.73 per cell). Found the electronics are still good in the Falcon (after getting dunked a few weeks back). And best of all, my old Canon GL-2 got sold today. well got back last night after i daydreamed right past the yeahaw junction exit...seemed to be the story of my weekend ) u know the next exit is about 10 miles south of orlando? took I4 home...anyways,, hugh got first in Q offshore and i think second in another class ( cant remember which one) he also won a top speed 2 in the raffel but he gave it to a kid sitting beside him,,,, i got third in skiff with one win and two dnf's (rudder let go because i never tightened the two set screws in the blade that hold it to the shaft so it locked hard right and took out a bouy....) it was fun again this year....my fe30 was stable and almost as fast as the fastest whip so it was great fun, too bad a bouy jumped out in front of the boat and a sponson speared it...looking forward to next year all ready

I feel the same Hugh although if withdrawal symptoms become sever enough I may join the Riverview club and mix it up with the gassers. I have a couple that I could put in the water with them.

Certainly appreciate it but it is a looooong drive for a days run. I think we will get our situation resolved quickly and we wont be down for more than a couple meets, hopefully less. Again, I really appreciate the offer. :beerchug:

So, what is this top secret sanctioned event that was planned for the end of July?Is it still possible and in the planning stage?I'm sure many racers on the East coast would attend!

Or a Fall Shootout??? Ron would love that!

tiqueman

Nothing special. just our first event we would have hosted. For what the county wants per hour for us to hold the event, its not worth having it. We would likely lose money or have to charge an unreasonable fee to host it.

Darn the county! It's time for politics, butt kissing, and negotiations.
Good luck on all that, but I hope it all works out well for you guys.
A summer or fall shootout would be too cool !!!

Hi Chris,

Hugh TP 4082 2200 and I think a 445?

Ive got TP motors for sale, NIB 4092. Its what I ran in mine and it was incredible. I since sold mine which was the dumbest thing ive done yet in FE. Not sure how 1P is going to handle it though..... I believe I ran a 642 on mine.

I am going to see if I can get the q boat back together and the tunnel is pretty much ready. If not this weekend I should be able to make it in a couple of weeks for the next one. I have a q tunnel that needs to be assembled and tested as well
