drill out 3/16 props to 1/4"?

Has anybody tried drilling out 3/16 props for 1/4" shafts?

Why dont you just use a 1/4 shaft stepped down to 3/16. You can buy one here at OSE.Its nearly impossible to drill out a prop perfectly straight.

You'll need to chuck it in a lathe & ream it out to 1/4". But if there's not enough 'meat' left in the hub you could throw a blade at full noise. Not pretty.

I figured somebody has already tried drilling them out and I just wanted to hear the results, pretty much what I expected.

It's a pain in the butt, and it's almost impossible to get it perfectly straight.

I looked to buy a set of 1/4 shafts with the step dwon and found that I can't find the right turn shaft. Where can I find counter rotating shafts with the step down. I have stainless props and they are much thinner in the shaft area. I think that I will have mine milled down and save me the trouble of looking.

What size motor are you using . Most good quality 3/16 flex shafts will take a ton of torque before you see any trouble .

Mine is a DF Sniper 45" with a Castle 2028.

he means the reverse rotating flex shafts.

the motors are Hor racing SSS5694 1200 kv on 6s and also 8s twin. And the props are the Prop Shop 5517/3 stainless props.

I might have the stepped down 3/16 rev shafts e mail me and I will look dasboata@aol.com thanks chris PS I have some 5517/3 SS props in 1/4" in stock !

Well that is something that I wished I would have known before I had made the buy on ebay. I had a friend turn down my shafts to 3/16 to make my props work. he is a good friend so he only charged me 5.00. Coffee money. I meet with him in the mornings for coffee when I can.

I worked the props quite abit. I removed almost half of the metal from the back side of the blades. I like stainless for this reason. I order the 3/16 drive dogs and have the props to balance still. but there coming along. I will keep you in mine for my next props though. Thx!
