I have been building a set of hardware for the PT SS45 Sport Hydro. It will be running oval with 6S and SAW's on 8S. This is the start with a `1/4 flex shaft, Dual bearing strut.

On 8S it will be rock solid no breakage.

Will a 1/4 flex rob a little power, compared to a 3/16?

Not really, we have 4,500 watts that is 6HP, He could get by on 6S but when you run 8S that is a lot of power and it is just safer. We have been twisting 3/16 on 8S and were real careful on setup.

Nice stuff Randy. Would this hardware suit a Whip Sport 40?

I do not see why not it is adjustable from 5 inch rails to 4 inch rails.

Looks good ! Make sure you stuff her full of floatation. A boat that big will fill up with water pretty good and go right down. I just had a nasty blowover on mine and destroyed the hull ripping the right sponson completly off but it still stayed above water for a while during its last retrieval. BLAHHH !!! No way she can be repaired this time. Good luck with your build !!

Hi Randy, I will watch how you get this project together too, may want to do one for myself sometime. The 1/4 cable wont drag and is alot stronger than 3/16.
When you get ready to glue on the front canard be sure to cut out all the blue mark and the wing will fit in the slot, then square and level it up and mark the sponson side, cut that and use good epoxy to make a fillet.

I meant the rudder & strut actually, :tongue_smilie:

I would like to see a final wieght number on ths project. Mine comes in at 13.4 lbs which is a little heavy for my likeing so im hopeing to remove at least 1 pound from the replacement hull. Please post your wieght when you get there, thanks,
Gary.

It is for a customer, Needing to pay my share of the bills in my family I have to do everything I can to make BBY profitable.

Thanks for he info Phil all those little things help.

Gary, thanks I will keep all in mind.

Ray, I am using almost all standard stuff with a little mod on the strut arm to custom fit. It is not really a big deal I do it for all my boats. But yes it can work on any boat. if I know the strut adjustment like Phil puts it .(bottom of transom to top of table)

I like the rear motor mount. Simple, sound, and probably makes a good heat sink too.

Always trying to be innovative. The tentative servo mount is a good place with the ESC, receiver pack and receiver on the right. Power cells in the front to make a great balance.

Nice. I really like the slot in the motor mount. I'm sure you are plenty aware, but I would ensure that long distance pushrod is in tension when in a turn. I run a pretty long one in my smaller PT and it seems to work well.

One of the good things about a push rod on the left..... it pulls in the turn and not push when turning right. Gotta see id a 40.161 will fit.

Hey Randy,

You may want to look at putting a brace across the engine well area to help ‘tie’ the deck together at or near the sponson transom area. At the speed we are throwing these PT SS45’s into the turns the hull is doing a lot of flexing trying to keep the fin hooked up.

Later,
Mike

Nice! So it's a large diameter tube creating a sort of water jacket around the actual stuffing tube, and the oiler tube passes all the way through the jacket and solders to the stuffing tube?
Sorry, still semi-new to building, picking up all the info I can.

You got it! I do this on all 1/4 flex shafts and some High SAW 3/16 flex shaft with out Teflon liner.

My part of the build is done, I hope the owner will add to the thread after he gets it. It was interesting building Phill's boat. There is a few things he does that I like a lot on the boat. The seam is real cool wel done Phill. It has inspired me to start a project I have been wanting to do build a 38/39 inch sport. A few years I will have it done.

Looks great!!.That color will be real easy to see aswell. My new replacement hull came in last week as well and its looking to be 2.5 lbs lighter than the last one that crahed and took off the right sponson.....so more speed!!!!! I can say the hard prt of my build was carving out the front to make room for the two 6s-5000 batteries. Did not like carving it up but these hulls need all the wieght as far forward as possible for SAW runs.

gary, couple questions. how many cells are you running on 1530 . what is the status of the 1527 you had previously used in the boat? was it 5 mm shaft? I'm building own design saw hydro for 2014.

It is a beast plenty of power on 4S I had mine in a Lift Master Rigger and it pulled a 48/50MM prop no problem.
