That splains my distain for it. My race approach to racing is to overpower it, smash it, or light it on fire. Sometimes all three.

This just in. It's a small thing to most but a big deal to me. We'll have a full time retrieval guy for the weekend. So Mike doesn't have to jump in and drag the row boat around this year. Wahoo!

I'm thinking a tip jar is in order.

fas
05-23-2013, 10:01 AM
I agree with the tip jar
Mike is taking off work friday to help us out, it will be great to hang out with him again, Its been a long time

as of right now we have 30 guys signed up ( with out that Jason or Smock guy) and 156 boats WOW there are going to be, some of the best racers in the nation right here in Michigan all at the same race how cool is that!!!!!

If your still not sure, you need to make up your mind reg closes on the the 14th of June that's only 2 weeks away
need to sign up fast and get your boats ready

Just need to tune my P-mono in again and my Q-offshore. Q-offshore is getting there. My test pond is too small really...:cursing:

Q-offshore runs for 5 min on a 5692 1200kv D wind SSSHOR motor, SF240 esc, 10K Dinogy 6S2P on board and turns a Prather 240 easy with no heat issues for 5 min. Speed???

Is there going to be P-Sport hydro?

no sign of the other 2 yet

But mine lasted 2 seasons...not 2 minutes:laugh::laugh::just-kidding:

The only good thing is that there was no actual "flame" or smoke....just a corner of the heatshrink that melted and a slight odour....no actual charring anywhere...thank god!

I'll measure it today, thank you.

It would be nice to know what the cabins and washroom facilities look like before hand. Pics would be nice!

I'm trying too decide how much time Wendy and I will spend in hotel and how much time camping??? I need to contact the hotels also to see how accessible they are... Last time it was not so easy. I asked for a shower chair and they left my with some plastic bench ten inches high... NOT GOOD!!

The push rims are the widest point of the chair and it's 27" wide with them. They don't come off...

Ray if you go to the sign up page for the Michigan Cup and click on Details, then scroll down it will show you a list of the racers and the classes they signed up for. There isn't a way to sort the entrants by class so you will have to do that yourself.

I have another stupid question for ya Ray. What height are your eyes at?

Sorry to be so invasive. We want to make sure our drivers stand has at least one spot that doesn't require you to be a contortionist to see the course. The hand rails, vertical posts, and peoples legs seem to always make it tough for you. Wont be that big of a deal if we figure it out in advance.

We've already got a ramp instead of stairs. We changed it from last year. Too narrow for anyone that eats. The new one will be 4' wide so getting you up n' down will be a breeze.

No wenches required. The ramp will be pointed at the lake this time. If we rig up his chair with a pair of 2230's on 12s each I'll bet we can launch him into the back straight.

The Elks also have a slingshot that will throw a rock from the lodge into the road on the other side of the lake. Seems like we could do something fun with that. Might be too much for Ray. Hey! Let's use it for Lemans starts in offshore?

jfrancisco892
06-04-2013, 08:02 PM
Lemans start for offshore. Have everyone have their boat, batteries, hatch, and tape behind a line. Gun goes off and you have to run put the batteries in, tape the hatch and go. Most laps wins. That would be sweet.

Push rims are only about an inch above ground and the wheels width without the push rims is 3 inches less... so 24 inches width...

I know your razzin me but, I'm caught in some adverse situations right now. Not easy to elaborate on-line nor do I want to but, I'm doing everything I can to get there. You have no idea how much I want to go but, there is a possibility that I could be a no-show. Not from a passport issue or something silly but, there are a few serious situations both Wendy and myself are faced with before we are a 100% for sure to go. I'm doping prep work etc. Lets hope it all comes together.

I'm waiting on a return email from the Red Roof Inn to make sure I actually can get an accessible bathroom. The only picture they don't post on the web is the damn bathroom!!! Stupid stuff but, very important to me!

I kind of liked that Hay wagon you guy's had for the drivers stand at the 2005 Nats. The one that was on two wheels for awhile. Added alot of extra thrills during the heats. Can we get that back?

Pete, it's a gift. Haha

Mike, Kabota Ken and I have storage figured out inside. We want to limit the amount of gear left out just due to foot traffic on Saturday. We could see 300 people on Saturday. We'll be policing the area but best to be cautious.

Race trailers space will be available down on the flats. Especially if Ken brings the futon, disco ball, and brass pole. I already cleared trailers with the Elks.

Buoy are painted one shot neon red. Finished those tonight. Crab floats this year. Mmmmmmuch more forgiving. Course goes in this Saturday.

Which hotel in the MMEU is closest to the pond?? Please help it's getting late. My passport is looked after.

Hey gang,

We have an official date. Wahoo!

We haven't come up with a class list yet but I wanted to make sure everyone knew early that there was truly going to be a Michigan Cup race next summer. It's safe to assume all the spec stuff will run and then we'll sprinkle in some big boat nonsense like the Cup races of old. Scale, open mono, open offshore. Not too many places to race an FE scale these days.

It will be at the Elks club again in Leonard, MI. Open water June 27 and racing June 28,29,30.

3 days of debauchery

Food available on site

Camping available on site (no hookups)

Built in banquet hall

Some very gracious hosts too. The Elks so enjoyed our racing nonsense in 2012 that they are planning to enter some races themselves next year. How cool is that!

We're expecting some serous competition and some serious hooligans too. I mean PAGS and I will be there fore sure so..............hooliganery covered. There is even talk of a few guest CD's that will keep us all playing nice. Names most of you would recognize. I'll confirm that when they confirm (it's early).

Just so you guys know how we ended up with this date. We wanted to make sure that anybody that wanted to bring kids was able to so it had to be after school got out and before they went back. For sure, bring the kids. There's a 99.999% chance of there being a kids class. Then we also wanted to dodge the local race events and the Gold Cup in Detroit. Ugh. It's lot of shuffling. The date is totally Midwest driven.

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for this one. It's a destination you'll be talking about for years.

If you can't get to any other travel races in 2013 be sure to get to this one. Start working on your wives early. Bring them too. Heyyyyy.........what about a wives class? hehehe Have to think on that one. It could work. Don't a be a hater.

This will surely be the most fun allowed by law.

Made the dock posts today out of 1.5"x11" companion flanges and 1.5" pipe. Bits n' pieces. Coming together

Anybody else having a flash back? Back in 2004 we had a Michigan Cup that was about the same size. We had a mix of the old guard and some fresh faces.

Then the following year we hosted the nats and it was the perfect storm. We had even more new guys. More old guys too. Hall of famers and pioneers. 62 in all. Guys that were spooky fast. That was the first race I'd ever seen Petersons mono hulls run. I remember thinking "yyyyikes". Or Doug Campbells personal LSH. Holy crap. The thrill of seeing Nayman who had not been to a nationals, beat the best of the best in P mono and setting a record in the process. Or the excitement of Ed Hughey's nephew for having placed in cracker box. Somewhere there's a pic of Pachmeyer (who's a giant) standing next to a little kid with the crackers. Priceless. The Hughey clan and Mr. Octura, Tom Perzanka himself made it out for the show. Tom came just to watch the nonsense.

This year we have some new racers and some vets too and well......I'm having a flashback. I hope we can follow the same pattern. Well, minus the storm. That was creepy.

Mark Weber Event Director for the APBA Gold Cup Race in Detroit will be visiting the Michigan Cup event on Saturday. I asked Mark if he could bring the Gold Cup trophy out for a visit, and he has agreed! The APBA Gold Cup is the oldest active trophy in all of professional motor sports. The 1st Gold Cup boat race was held in 1904. Detroit first hosted a Gold Cup race in 1916, and has been the permanent hosting race site since the early 1990s.

Mark is also a former full scale Unlimited hydroplane driver, and has interest in RC racing. The DRRA (Detroit River Regatta Association) has donated some nice prizes for the Michigan Cup race. There are 2 sets of two day deluxe APBA Gold Cup grandstand tickets with parking pass ($140 package) along with some souvenirs. The Detroit race is 2 weeks after the Michigan Cup event. For more information on the Gold Cup hydroplane race please visit: http://www.gold-cup.com/

yes Ray you should have your own power, I'm bringing one generator but might need extra power. They have power in the elks club but I wouldn't count on using it during the day. I used it last year at night after racing.

Well, a few off us were out at the lake today. 91 degrees. Blistering sun. The deck is done and it is fantastic.

The water is.....cleaner than last year. Visibility of maybe 8ft. I think you could drink it. Still fighting the damned weeds though. Spent some time with the weed ninja. SO SORE. We cut back on the lilies and now the milfoil is rampant. ugh Weeds are not as bad as last year but still there. Might need an intervention for next year.

It's so pretty out there I wanted to just stay.

Post marathon. Tired, keep remembering things.

Orange alert
When you're coming north on Rochester Road there is a blinking 3 way stop in Lakeville. Google wants you to turn right at that light. You can't. The county decided it was a good time to shred the road for replacement. They absolutely butchered it and there's no hope of getting it done in time. SOOOOOOO

You turn left at the 3 way light onto Lakeville Road
Then about a mile or two down you turn right onto Curtis Road. (now you are driving north)
Travel north on Curtis Road until Army Road
Turn right onto Army Road.
Then turn left onto Pond Road.
The Elks Lodge will be on your right.

Basically you are looping around Lakeville Lake to the west instead of the east. It's about the same distance but guys, this route sucks. It's washboard and yucky. You'll think you made a wrong turn. It will seem like you're way way out in the boonies. Your not. You'll make it. haha

The lodge is looking better than last year. The new deck is awesome! Really starting to get excited. The new dock is much better than last year, Fred delivered the drivers stand. Operation of the weed Ninja is so much fun, especially cleaning it off! See attached photos from Sunday. Looks like Ty was having fum riding in the floating weed whipper!

Terry,

Tom and I will be coming in from I-69. Do you know how far up Rochester Rd. is getting worked on? I was planning on coming down Rochester Rd. from I-69 to Army Rd. If that's not an option, we can get off I-69 at Lapeer. Then we'd turn on Curtiss Rd. from the West.

Guys and Gals

High points will be the order you finish in the class
so if there are 22 boats that run in the class and you take#1 you would get 22 points if you take #22 you would get one

every class you run will count for your points

Team Classes will be scored the same way, your three classes(per person no overlap 9 total per team) you pick before racing starts on friday
will count for your team points team with the highest point total wins the cup. as long as a team has P-Limited sport,p-limited offshroe,p-Limited mono covered the rest of the classes will be about the same

so far we have three teams I know we can get a few more whos it going to be

The UIM Trophy that Bill Muncey won in 1972 stays at the lodge. The trophy is the property of the APBA and is on semi-permanent loan to the Elks. As long as we keep racing there, they can keep the trophy. If the race is no longer held, the trophy goes back to the APBA. The winner of the MMEU race will have there name put on a plaque on the trophy for 2013, and every year after that. The Michigan Cup trophy that you have goes home with the winning team.

I believe Mike went out and found a new Michigan Cup. We think the original is in a Cuban prison. The one Mike calls "the old one" is not quite as awesome.

So unrelated to the Muncey trophy. I think at least. I may have that wrong though.

The Muncey trophy will be awarded as directed by the Elks. That's their baby. Last time I talked with Brian he was leaning towards a sportsmanship award voted on by the racers.

We already have high points, team points, mister offshore. Sportsmanship has never been awarded though.

Ray, your pitting in our tent. You can't get closer unless you're me.

Pete, set it and forget it. Might be a good idea to get some cork screw looking tether to latch it down. They have them at the Depot.

Doug, I just wanted to make sure it would fit through the fence. It does. We'll have your spot and Ken's spot mapped out. You'll be close to him I think. Fred and I have the whole pit area planned out...........but it's in our heads so getting it out could go horribly wrong. What kind of canopy space do you guys need?

Jay, it's not BYOB. If you are so inclined, both kid friendly and adult beverages can be had from the Elks full bar.

All, adult beverages are for after hours. Should you partake of any adult beverages you can not be racing or even testing after having done so. There will be zero exceptions to this. We'll explain this further as folks arrive.
