I have the 4050 series TP 4082 motor, 2180kv, on 4s2p(Impulse 31). I THINK it's a D wind, but haven't confirmed that. Any input on the apprpriate timing for this motor/setup?

If it is a "D" wind, then you will not want much timing, no more than 5*. If it is a "Y"wind it will not be too happy on such low timing.

Thanks, I actually already searched and learned about that part. I guess what I should be asking is if it actually is a D wind. The TP site lists a 2050 series 2200kv as a D, but no 2180kv, which is what it says on the label, not sure I should just Aassume they are referring to the 2180.

Maybe the company you bought it from would seem obligated to tell you......... i fail to understand some of these questions when it seems like a simple email or phone call would clear it up. Do the instuctions, or manual, or spec sheet not tell you? I know the wind of every motor i buy since its a spec that allows you to burn it up if its not known. Who/what company did you purchase it from?

I bought it from Steve at OSE here. Picked it up at his shop, but there was no paperwork with it, and honestly, it didn't occur to me to find out at the time. I am still new to boats, and with all my brushless(Tekin sensored) cars timing is not as big of a thing. I figured I'd put it out here because I know several were sold on the forum.

Kevin.
I run a couple of those motors . They are definitely a 'D' wind. Low timing, like Fluid said.
Cheers.
Paul.

I'm running leopard 4092, read that it should be low timing I have it set at 3.5.

Yeah id recommend low timings as well
I was using a 4074 at 15 and then dropped it to 7 and found it ran cooler, and same speeds, so obviously it didnt make it any better
