so im trying something different on our 1:1 drag boats we use primer on our gear case instead of paint since thats pretty much the only thing in the water and we have seen a increase in E.T. and mph so i figured that i would try it on my revolt for now im just doing the center that the boat appears to run on at WOT here are some pics of what im doing will let you know how it works http://s1083.photobucket.com/albums/j392/rinski73/photobucket-50229-1349881718394.jpghttp://s1083.photobucket.com/albums/j392/rinski73/photobucket-51012-1349881703437.jpg:mellow:

A non-shiney finish on hull bottoms usually results in a small increase in speed. Most of us sand the bottom with fine paper, but I suppose that the non-slick surface that a primer leaves may accomplish the same thing. Years ago we sprayed a "speed coat" on the bottoms - which for all practical purposes was primer.

I've thought about trying to mix some powdered graphite in with 2 part automotive clear coat for bottom paint, would still flat sand it with 600 grit though.
Not sure if it would make much difference over the scuffing only. Might just make a big mess!
Might give it a try on a new JAE I have to finish. That one has been on the shelf since spring, too many other boats needed tuning then the usual repairs after running. Long Canadian winters are for building, the short summers are for running!
