Destroyed a rigger today...

RIP Hobby King rigger.

On my last run a couple weeks ago I got a little water in the hulls. I pulled the radio to dry out and packed up. Only cleaned up the flex shaft after the run.

Fast forward to this morning. Pulled the boats out, greased up the flex. Noticed no radio so I grabbed the one out of the tool box as it was open. Here starts the problem.

The Flysky radios are nice, but if they get wet they need to be taken care of ASAP and thoroughly dried. I obviously forgot about this one being an issue and reinstalled it.

Went to the lake today to run. Had what I thought was a range issue, so I kept it close. No problems.

Hand the controls over to SirBudman AKA the DESTROYER and watched in unfold in slow motion.

Boat hit the rocks full speed burst into a few parts and the bulk landed next to our work tables/his wife.

Morale of the story. I was a dumbass and payed the price. My memory slipped and its gone. Overall Im not at all pissed about it I in gored the signs and learned a valuable lesson.

Now the scary part- the lipo.

What is one to do in such an event? I pulled a Jim Marcum and the lipo went in the deep end. The fact is it was hot, beat up, starting to swell and get hotter and there was little other choice. Im not one to litter- but I was in a situation Ive never had to face before. When safety becomes a huge factor sometimes you gotta do something your not proud of. So the battery is sitting in about 50' of water.

Oh that sucks! Years ago I totaled a 3.5 nitro tunnel hull & K&B lower unit from radio issues. LOL we have a 6s 5000mah pack on the bottom of our pond thanks to a violent blowover that ripped the hatch off a boat, and some props and shafts, a couple tuned pipes, a few glowplugs. I'd love to dive our spot with a metal detector, lots of stuff down there from over 30 years of rc boating at the same spot.

My uncle balled me out for tossing the battery into the pond.

At that point I would have done the same thing, I wouldn't want to transport it in that shape. According to treehugger.com lipos contain relatively few toxic components (?). Just looked it up, if treehuggers like them they can't be too bad! Surprises me, thought it would have been a toxic soup, whatever chemical reaction happens when they burn is toxic though.

Amazingly enough the only things lost was the battery and the boat. Since it hit a big rock on the shore (full off concrete fill/slabs, etc) and flew up on shore there was no water on anything.

The shaft on the motor appears to be straight.

Out of precaution I will pitch the Rx too. Not loosing another boat over it.

JAE Mini Sprint next! Use the same power system and hardware.

I got a battery here ready for "sport" running and Im going to get a good one for when things get a bit serious or I grow a bigger set :)

Yeah i feel for you, this is a carbon copy of what happened to my JAE Mini Sprint. Lost turn on radio & WOT into concrete side of pond, done exactally the same to the lipo where the battery move foward with impact onto the boom tube. Boat sank but water was only 3feet deep & retrieved in 3-4 minuets, battery was getting hotter & hotter after removing so went into a bucket of salt water for a week or so. Esc was also shot, not sure whether it shorted when it sank as it was salt water i was running on or whether their was other problems with the esc.

Stripped servo in my SV27 on a turn. Boat went straight into rocks because my stupid finger didn't get off throttle in time. Lesson learned - rocks are harder than fiberglass.

So, this sux man, but what happened? Loss of radio signal then full throttle into rocks?

This still sucks. Just had to give me the radio didn't you. I know it was radio problems but still feel like $hit.

Had to of been.

I took it way down the other end of the pond and slowed down and I couldnt tell what direction it was going in. SO I walked down and it seemed like I was having radio issues. Figured it was distance related.

So I brought it down closer and bam.
