vote on the open scoop flowing air across the esc? will it burn?

couldnt get the canard gyro dialed in so it's off for now

hoped for 80mph when I started this exercise, we'll see

Have you by chance checked your center of gravity? If its as far back as it looks like its going to be you are going to have a very hard time keeping that boat on the water above 50mph.

Very nice boat you have there.......bet it weighs 20 lbs!! I would close it off, with as much water cooling as the ESC has you should be fine unless you really overload it which leads to other problems as well.

What prop/size is that?

Beautiful build! However, I am greatly concerned about how you will be able to seal off the hatch to keep out the water. The rear opening in particular looks difficult to seal. Remember, water and electronics don't mix. Good luck with the maiden voyage! :thumbup1:

there really isn't away way to make this boat dry , I'll post some more pics when I get the cowl mounted this morning. I went with waterproof servos, a MR3000 water resistent receiver in a traxxas radio box, gave the esc a good shot of Corrosion X, and lifted the batteries off the bottom.

i figured that any water in the hull will go up and out when cornering.

I think the CG will end up just aft of the turn fin-1"

The CG may work since that hull since unlike most sport hydros that one has minimal frontal lift. But you are in for nothing but problems if you cannot seal up the hull. When the boat flips - and it will eventually - everything will be soaked, and the boat may sink. Wet batteries must be thoroughly dried before you use them again, and a wet motor needs maintenance right away. I only hope you are running in reasonably fresh water.....

and the cg is 1" aft of the turn fin which is where PT recommends I think...

If you can't seal it off I will give the boat my condolences now. It looks like you have a lot of time in effort into the hull already so I would go the extra mile and find a way to make the hull water tight.

ran for the first time tonight, no camera man however

very fast at 50%

punched it once and it moves!

the ass end hopped a bit at over half throttle X457/3 prop stock balanced and sharpened

it's got alot of weight and I would guess downforce from that big wing on the tail, the strut is dead flat so I dont know the fix for the hopping

the rooster is impressive and it whines

smelled hot greese when I brought it in

last pass punch it to full and it spun the shaft at the collet

good news is that it was aimed at the dock and stopped only 10' short

the bad news is that when it comes off plane it gets swamped over the transom, it took a very nose-high attitude in seconds

I either have to lose weight, increase boyance or increase freeboard at the back, I'm going to start with freeboard as it's probably the easiest.

I'll get video next time

That's a good starting prop. You may have to raise or lower the strut to fine tune the running characteristics, and/or move the CG back. Glad it ran well for you.

Cup the last 3rd of the blades to narrow the thrust cone - should help with the hop.
