I just found this link. I have always wanted to attend the nationals. I live 1.5 hours north in cottonwood on forty acres with a private 3 acre Bass/RC pond. I'm new to FE and would like to meet some Ca FE boaters so I will attend this event. I want to have someone contact me so I can become a sponsor and support this event. My current fleet includes a MHZ Godzilla, 4s Mr. Krabs, a 4s sport hydro I bought on rc universe, and I just bought a 4s rigger from Danny (diegoboy) on the east coast.
Thanks, Allen

Jim, Tahoe is a very nice place. Just West of the races by 1.5 hours is the Napa wine Region. 1 hour up the road is Lake Oroville. You might consider a few days with the family on a house boat. If you need some ideas or help just let me know. I'm a local guy.

FWIW: The H1 Unlimited race on Folsom Lake (not too far away) is on May 31-June 2, just the w/e prior to the FE Nats.

The website is: http:///bigwakeweekend.com/

There has to be quite a few FE hydro racers that are into the Unlimiteds. I'm suprised that this hasn't been pointed this out.

Unlimiteds racing one weekend and five days 'o FE Nats right after that.

How often do the hydro planets come into alignment like that?

There is not a NAMBA "N1 SS" class... it's just N1... 17.5T ROAR Stock...

The boats Randy is suggesting would be a good candidate to be called "Super Stock", or are otherwise just N2 boats...

No this inspires creativity. This will make it fun to me. Wilmer, myself agrees and so does Mark and right now that is all that is coming to run the class that I know of. You are in 1/10 and 1/8 scale I did not purpose to change them.

I did build the boat a while back for several other setups. This is the boat I would run in N1 SS Sport if there was such a thing on the books, it is about the size of the 1/16 Scale. But what I was talking about was the N1 classes we have running a 13.5 turn ROAR Motor.

I think Randy is actually trying to keep the spirit of the class alive,
Not sure what fueled him on it, but I like it. A 13.5 is the wind that can viably last 6-laps water cooled or not, and display respectable speeds.
I see a 20 inch mono maintaining an entertaining speed in oval trim with the data/specs I'm willing to release to the public now.

Randy and I are gonna have a GOOD time with it, and so is Tommy.

This is NOT by any means a campaign to do away with our beloved/devout/well contested/nessecary N-1 class because THAT challenge needs to exist in our world.

If nothing at all one of us will write a proposal to add.

BTW, I'm taking this time to offer my opinion on doing away with offshore classes in ANY way (NAMBA).
My vote is NO. Absolutely do NOT get rid of ANY offshore classes WHATSOEVER, or ANY classes for that matter.

My concern is growth. Growth of the hobby first, second, growth of us as racers.
-Diversity. Hey, what if a European, or someone from China with a stepped mono-2 moved here?
Would it hurt for the guy to have a class to race in?

They definitely have classes OUR boats fit right into.
I'm "team" LEAVE THE CLASSES ALONE UNLESS YOU'RE ADDING MORE FUN.

Those classes aint botherin' nobody..

Or just submit the one you already have in your hand.... :thumbup1: Just have to pick the motor wind you want it to include... ;)

It would be fun... and would bring back the 1/16th scale sized boats... which currently really have no place to effectively run.

T.S.Davis
04-17-2013, 08:54 AM
We don't need N1 anymore. Those classes can barely field a heat at the largest events in the country. We'll leave it in because those that see this truth aren't willing to argue about it. We revised the large cell count classes to make the participation in those classes more probable/possible. Any time the N1 subject comes up it's a holy war even though very very few run it.

Nobody has proposed getting rid of any offshore classes. Not in any proposals I've seen or heard of.

A spec for N2 might be the only way to save any of the 2s classes. It cost less to go the same speed with a spec boat as it is right now.

Terry you're right, the N1 class on a national level is pretty much dead, but isn't Q-Hydro? (and by the way I'm the current nat champ in that) and a few other classes??? you keep em there in case the nats come to wherever, and theres a bunch of guys that have those boats, and we have at least a dozen N1-ers in D1 that would love to vye for a Nat chapionship when or if the nats come here to D1. I'm not gonna get into the rules and all that about it because wilmer has done amazing things with these little boats but the normal racer who doesn't have hours and hours to mess around with turbo boost and timing advance can't compete w a guy like wilmer. We keep the class simple still, we use brushed 27T motors and speedos and a 2 cell LiPo, our motors are $20 batteries are $15-$18 bucks and speedos are free (we all have bunches of old car speedos lying around that work fine) I'm on my third season now with the same motor speedo and batts in 3 N1's w/ little maitainence (cut the com beginning of each season and change brushes).
And I didn't even know they were looking to get rid of offshore classes????? I definitely would not race at ANY National event if they eliminated Offshore!

RandyatBBY
04-17-2013, 01:49 PM
It is up for vote to possibly eliminate Offshore in SAW's you guys are confused. It is a little confusing not sure is it is just 2 lap or all #8 in question.

I getcha Mike. 10th scale is another example of exactly what you're saying. We tried it up here and couldn't find enough guys to run a single heat. Guys just aren't into it up here. Makes no sense with the gold cup and all. But up in the NW they totally dig it.

Your right about Q too. That's why the larger cell count classes were re-written so that Q,S, and T can run together if the numbers don't support them separately.

As far as I know there is no talk of eliminating anything in NAMBA. In fact, the latest proposals include new cats only classes. If monos can sprint why not cats? Seems obvious to most.

madmikepags
04-17-2013, 02:12 PM

Our full scale counterparts do so, why can't we? Let's keep all our classes.

T.S.Davis
04-19-2013, 02:08 PM
The only trouble with keeping everything on the books is that you end up with a handful of guys in a class and in some cases less than a handful. Worst case is there aren't enough guys in some classes to even race. N1 and Unlimited are both examples at each end of the power and cost spectrum. You would think that at a nationals there would be more than 6 guys to run in these classes but in some cases there aren't enough to even field a heat.

I'm not rallying for elimination of those but if they didn't exist and a guy wanted to race he would be building/selecting boats that would run in more heavily populated classes. For what a scale costs to set up I could have 3 Limited boats to race. The scale I sink all my money into might not get to race anywhere. A boat that doesn't race is a sad boat. haha

We have too many classes for the number of human beings that play FE. No I don't have a solution. It's merely an observation.

madmikepags
04-28-2013, 10:24 AM
you can build a scale boat for a lot less than u think Terry. Theres a guy in my club using a $149 outrunner and a $150 speedo, and 2 cheap 4S 40c packs, and the boat is fast and compettitive. For scale it's more the time spent building and painting and detailing than the actual cost. I guess we are the exception here on the east coast we have 7-8 N1's and 4-5 scale entries each week.

namba98

Guys, you really need a registered racer page so folks know what classes have enough and which don't. If you have a travellers that are packing boats on a plan to race they wont want to pack a boat for a class that isn't going to run.

P Limited OPC is a prime example. Dirtsnowrider asked the question. Randy answered it correctly. But we still don't know if it's running. P Limited OPC always gets enough entries but dirtsnow can't know that.

Suppose he's on the fence about going but sees Crackerbox on there. Thinks " I have one of those! Two boats will make it worth the trip". Then he gets there an no crackerbox.

Let's get it together gang.

More than twenty classes have three entrants to run. I will make sure that there is enough of any one that is traveling , If not I will have derby call them before they are traveling. Yes you must pre-register.

So there is a chance I may not be running my tunnel if I make the 2 hour drive?

I have other boats but I need to know what specs I need to have them at so they are NAMBA legal. I know for a fact that every one of my boats will need to be powered down. I also need to know if my batteries are NAMBA legal. I have many questions and am not getting the answers I need in order to plan this trip. My e mail has not been answered to this point as of yet from back in March. Maybe I e-mailed the wrong person on the directors board?

I have left a message with Dave Bestpitch, waiting to hear back........

Dirt-feel free to PM me or email to dnewland49@msn.com with any questions you may have.

Dave or Randy-If I can help get paper entries listed on RCRacingevents.com, fax me over the data and I'll enter it. (602)843-0722 Fax.

I feel it is very important to get the sign up data centralized so it can be reviewed by all attending and those planning on attending.

Ok guys, just want to throw this out. I would like to do a memorial cup race for 1/8 scale during the nats. I recently had someone very close to me pass away. The trophy would go to the winner for the year, and we would expand upon it as we go along. I would like to name this the Jim Forand Cup. Thoughts?

looks legal to me for P-mono, you have a Titan 29 there, (a little small nowadays for P-mono but it'll do fine) don't know what motor you have, but you will run it on 4S. Don't worry about speed, the most important thing is finishing races, P-mono is an extremely competitive class and fast, usually boats are TOO fast, usually 1/2 the boats in a heat end up upside down, drive smart, get a good pit man to guide you thru the rough stuff. Speed isn't everything FINISH all your races and you might just end up on the podium??? Stranger things have happened...................Right Dave Newland!!!!!

Allen-Mike gave some great info. Worth reading again and basing your race plan for the entire event.

Just don't pay attention to the last 3 words. Notice how he only wants to come for the Offshore day and not the P Mono day. He must be scared of something. And, that something quite literally has his name on it.

The sign up deadline is Saturday, May 25th. Classes with 3 or more entries after this date will be official. All other classes will be dropped from the schedule.

For any class that "makes" on the 25th, entries can be added up until raceday. Late sign up penalty may apply.

All entries need to be listed on RCRACINGEVENTS website, so please make sure the site is listing your entries, and accurately.

Please reach out to Dave Bestpitch if any revisions need to be made. The heatsheets are being printed from RCRACINGEVENTS, so that is the place to be signed up.

Hey gents, count me in for Q-Offshore, Atomik just confirmed theyre sending out a big cat today! THE Q IS ON PAGGS!!

Count Randy and Tommy in for N-1 mono as well.
I'm considering whipping out my OPC

D. Newland
05-24-2013, 01:59 PM
Wilmer, that's great. We've got to figure something out, though. I can't do both Q and T Offshore. It's 1 or the other.

If Randy wants to run T-Offshore, I recommend you sign up that Cat for T Offshore so all 4 of us can run. 6S voltage is legal and that is what Pags and I are running.

If Randy would rather drop from T Offshore, then you, me and Pags can run in Q Offshore.

Randy-Any thoughts on what you would like to do?

RandyatBBY
05-24-2013, 03:01 PM
I all ready said I would run T offshore and N1 Mono a long time ago (way before the deadline). There is two classes that will not run and I payed the fee for them transfer the fee to N1 Mono and T Offshore. Sorry I just do not have enough money to spend more and have the Money to stay at the race. I do not have $40 extra. If Dave Bestpitch can not call..... forget it. If this is all about money I can save a lot and stay home.

Thanks, Randy. I think something got lost in translation, but we'll put the emphasis on T Offshore so all 4 of us can run together.

Wilmer-Sign up the cat for T Offshore. Much more fun for the 4 of us to race together. Cool?

Ted and I drove through the night Saturday to get home early Sunday. Still not quite functioning 100%, but close. We had a good time @ Lake Minden and the low turnout was never an issue. In fact, they had almost identical racer turnout in 2008. It really doesn't matter if there are 6 guys or 60 guys attending, it's how the heats are populated and we had great competitors running in every class.

It's a beautiful site, on a lake that is in the center of an RV resort. Large trees in the pits provided great shade to where you didn't need an EZ UP. The newly built drivers stand was very nice and we had our own dock to launch from. I really like racing there.

The weather was not really an issue, until Saturday. Well, open water on Tuesday was blown out, but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday AM we had near perfect conditions. The heat started kicking Friday afternoon, then completely throttled us on Saturday. Humidity and bugs, too. We decided to start early and go right through lunch so we could be done early. It worked, we were done by 2:00.

Thanks to Mike Pags for making the trip. Not only did he bring all of his toys from New York, He cryo froze meat, pork and wings and we enjoyed BBQ'ing a few nights with his food! He and I had a few scores to settle from last years Nat's when I took Q Offshore and he took P Mono. Well, we swapped this year and got the planets back in alignment. He took T Offshore (we both ran Q boats) and I took P Mono, but Mr Offshore is mine this year! That will give him something to chew on for the next 12 months.

Congratulations to Jim Osborne for winning both P-Sport and LSH with his Insane 30. Those were his first FE Titles, so he got thrown in the lake @ the banquet. Also, David Newton swept 1/8th scale for his first FE Title, and he went swimming, too. For some reason, a few people thought that Wilmer's 3 title wins were his first, too, and were working on throwing him in. He had to quickly remind them that nobody has been to more FE Nat's than he has (true-I think he's 11 for 11), and he does, in fact, have previous National titles to his name.

The 1/10th Vintage, Modern and 1/8th scale class racing was superb. All 3 classes had racers that weren't afraid of throwing their boats around the course, rubbing decks, making inside passes, etc. Great spectating.

This was Allen Cordy's first race ever, and I think he's hooked. he and his daughter spent all week soaking it all in! He has a very impressive Mr Crabs rigger for P-Ltd, but it did something I've never seen before. He had some minor boom damage/loose screw and right at the finish line on about lap 4, the boat folded up like an origami Pterodactyl.

There were a few heats that stick out for me. First was the nearly perfect deck-to-deck racing Ted and I had in P-Ltd Cat for 18 laps. I caved at the beginning of the 4th round, flipping my (well, his) cat just after the start in turn 1. There was also a P-Ltd Offshore heat where Ted was chasing Pags, and Osborne was chasing me and all 4 of us were within 1/4 lap of each other for the entire race. The order changed a bit when Mike bobbled a turn, but all 4 of us finished on the exact same lap count. You could have heard a pin drop during that 4 minute run! I also had great P Mono heats with Pags, but I just don't have a competitive Q Offshore setup to put the pressure on him (who does, right?). His Q boat turned the highest lap count for any offshore class. I don't have the exact figure right now, but for those that have seen that boat run, you know what I'm talking about.

Formal results will be posted on the NAMBA website, including racer photos and complete racing data from each class. it will take some time configuring the data, but it will be there as time allows.

Thanks to Dave Bestpitch and the rest of the Dist 9 crew for helping put on this event, and thanks to Steven @ OSE for picking up the title sponsorship!

I will formally announce that the 2014 Nat's will be held in Michigan, June 25th-28th. This is exciting as Michigan is THE PREMIER FE race host. More information will be made later by the Michigan crew on another thread.

Hey guys, I just wanna thank all the guys in D9 that ran the Nat's, I had a great time and met some great new people and we had some great racing. Dave Newland, Jim O, and Ted McKay are some great racers, I had the pleasure of battling against them for most classes all week. As always at the Nats I learn a lot, but mostly what I come away with is the knowledge that I'm not really as good as I think I am!!!! It was a small race but the competition for each class was extremely solid. If you won a title here you might only have beaten 5,6,7 guys but all of those guys were QUALITY racers. I think the Theme for this Nats was Quality not quantity. When you're a pretty good racer and there are 3-4 guys on the drivers stand in every heat that are capable of kicking your A_ _, thats quality. Hats off to all the competitors and to Dave Newland the new High Points Champ and Mr. Offshore!!! noone has won both since Doug Twaits Jr in Michigan in '09. Thanks for a great show guys!!!!

Ok jim yes he "took me to school" too bad I was riding the short bus with my helmet on an a zip loc baggie of broken crayons. At least thats the way it looked like I was driving!!!! He's lucky my boat didn't spear him when he made that pass, I know it almost looked intentional but my boat kept doing that bow-steer thing at the exit of every turn!!!!! Hope to see all you guys in Mi next year we will have a great time and some great racing!!!

09-28-2013, 01:54 PM
it wasn't a single thing to fix probably tested 8-10 differnt props, moved the weight back, raised the strut a bit and a little less right tab and a little more left tab, prob about 12-14 practice runs before I got it right, but it's a completely different boat now, I might not be able to beat dave but the boat is so much more consistent now that if I got the start like I did in that first race I would be much harder to catch and pass. MInd you now that dave is one of the best drivers in the country and has probably the best P-mono I've ever seen, so I don't feel bad being "taken to school" by him like Jim "broken boat" Osborne said!!!!! And BTW "The High Plains Drifter" is the moniker I got at the Nats this year, Partly because my Orange boat would unexpectedly "drift" into others lanes, but probably more because my P-Lim mono (black CF Titan 40) that going down the back stretch would "drift???" (OK I did it) to lane 1/2 or 1/3 and consequently shutting the door on Jim and Dave and Ted (who were all coming hard in one race or another). I really had a blast racing w/ all those guys, there wasn't a Lot of competition there but the drivers that were there were all fierce competitors!!! Oh and for the record the picture of me leaving w/ my (girly) bag was a little skewed, the polka-dots were white not PINK!!! nice photo shop job JIM!!!

it wasn't a single thing to fix probably tested 8-10 differnt props, moved the weight back, raised the strut a bit and a little less right tab and a little more left tab, prob about 12-14 practice runs before I got it right, but it's a completely different boat now, I might not be able to beat dave but the boat is so much more consistent now that if I got the start like I did in that first race I would be much harder to catch and pass.

All I have to say Pags, is Dave made me do it. It was great fun!
