I still build 1/10 TFH and Runner bottoms for real drag racers to run when they are relaxing. There has been a loss of the Parma 1/10 motors and I have been wanting to build a bigger boats but did not want to go to 1/5 or 1/8 scale too expensive for the electrics. So I found a dummy motor in 1/6 scale that there is a good supply http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=1+6+scale+hemi+engine&hl=en&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&biw=1024&bih=653&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5042924912029017398&sa=X&ei=3RQTUJXjFsSjrQGdrYCQCw&ved=0CGIQ8wIwAw

I am starting to build a plug for the FTH and Runner bottoms in 1/6 scale. The TFH boat will be 38 inches long and 14 inche wide. The Runner Bottom will be 35.8 inches long 10.83 wide at the transom.

This is my start.

How heavy is the motor ... I wonder how it would look in my 51" shovel?

According to one seller it weighs 3.55 pounds - the block is die cast metal after all. That's more than most large FE motors.....maybe it's just a display accessory.

The one I bought most all of it is plastic just the center block is metal, much lighter.

Like I said it is 1/6 scale. I have the template for the runner bottom started and at the same point as the TFH.

Well plans have changed on the boat I am going to do Problem Child. Most of the time I do not show the building of a Plug to make a mold. But in a post a few weeks ago some one asked how to do it. So hear is the one and only time I am going to show it. You need to have some imagination at this point of the progress to see the finished model. I will post a picture of the top half with out the sponsons and bottom. It is still a little rough. So bear with me.

I am going to cut a little on the bottom mold today but I really need to get back to the three or four other boats waiting to be done that are production work.

If I can keep on it like 3 hours a day M threw F I would say two to three months to make the first boat. Orders and like today the doctor gets in the way. But I am on the down hill side of the P Sport boat and I really want to get this one done.

I have decided to do this boat as a shoe box style molding at least in the front, to do butt joints are much weaker in the narrow hard to get to places. What do you guys think?

RandyatBBY
01-08-2015, 01:12 PM
I had time in the doctors office to think about the build, just a yearly Physical. I decided to build a lower butt seam and make a inner mold to do the shoe box I will end up with the best of both worlds. pictured is the bottom back portion of the new mold.

I have decided to make the block part of the deck/hatch so that when I sell the hull you will be able to build the dummy motor as part of the deck. Also I am in the process of making molds for the 1/10 scale hemi as we speak. I do not know what I will do today on the buck but I will bring home pictures of what I do today tonight and post them. Hope you guys are enjoying the mold build blow by blow.

Frank is building the 71 for his 16 year old son and wants to have the larger stock bumper for safety. Frank put a newer drive train in the car efi and all. It has a Dakota digital dash, new 8.5 stronger rear end. 4L60E trans and a Vortec 350 with a older tunnel-port EFI.
Yes the "69" Camero with the RS package is one of my favorites too.

How did the repop panel fit. My buddy Gary built a car for Von Gittin Drift Car Champ. It was a dynacor 1969 Mustang . I must say that was most jacked up body ever >>new repop<< body right out of the shipping crate . Nothing fit fenders doors hood rear deck stock tail light housing wouldn't even bolt up. Looked awesome once done but before that what a pile before .

It was AMD. I suggested the full panel but my friend oped for the short/cheaper panel. we did try to use it but the short panel or 1/2 panel was to long a pos. We bought the full AMD panel and it was excellent.

"A up date" the seams for the trunk lid turned out to be 1/2 of an inch on the drivers side and 1/8 passenger side. On the 72 T top Camero we have in same garage the trunk seams are 3/16 on both sides. we will ajust the trunk lid on the 71 to be centered but much wider.

I've got one of these it looks like it would be perfect, I think if you mount it low on the transom like the real ones it will be fine. Besides your just using the rudder to guide it strait and low speed turns, this boat is not designed to turn like a oval course boat.

I am only one guy, I race 10 times a year, if I am lucky. I work on several molds when the time is available. This project always pulls on me. But I have priority's that pull me more sometimes. It will be done right, I am not going to rush creativity. Thanks for asking it does make me feel better. I am not going to Moab this year (dang it). I might go to Hot August Nights. That is if the 65 or the 70tie are running.

when I looked at this thread last night I was asleep and did not want to wake up to answer much. Parma does not male the 1/10 scale Hemi any more. That is another project I an going to finish this winter. I am going to mold the block into the deck hatch. then I want to build the molds for heads, valve covers, magnito, blower, injectors and bug catcher. I intend to make the motor parts out of epoxy or liquid plastic.
Right now I have no orders for anything. This has never happened before. So I am working on this set of molds.
Thanks everyone for interest and comments.

4S to 10S single and twins will work, 1500 watts and up is needed. The castle 2028 and a 400a esc should be fine.
I plan on running 4S twins 1521 motors and 300A ESC. I am going to take my SAW motors and setup out of my SAW boat for the boat.

Well I keep running after $$$ and then I work on orders. I never get to it because it has nothing pushing it. If I had 4 or 5 guys that step up to the plate it would be different. All it needs is finish. It is shaped. If you really want to see this mold get finished Plunk down a deposit. Then it will get done. If you guys did this I can take it to a body shop and have it finished in a short amount of time.

With the size and complexity of the hull a fiberglass version will be in the $400. range. Carbon fiber will be a bit more Like $465. and this is all in epoxy. The block will be molded in to the deck hatch . I will be doing molds of the other pieces of the engine.

They want big money for them but they would be the cherry onthe cake for your hydro drag jobs!

Thanks. I know about Conely. Never heard about the schillings before. This boat can be powered by anything. Can I afford one ??? Man I would have to save way too long and what I do have of that value I would not trade for one. Some one might do it time will tell. It sure would be neat. I think some one else has done it. Mine will be electric first. I do not know what Shawn or F1rogers will do.

Oh that's way back Randy, I kinda left them for cats. I still have a Miss Bud 1/12, and an outrigger. Both run but I haven't got serious with them. I recently got one of Andy's Edge Sport Hydro hulls too(yet to build).

I think I'll 'too out' on the cats this year so onto the next challenge is what I mean.

The first hull out of the molds will be FG. Molds are good quality. I do not do infusion, do not have the supplies nor the experience with the process. Randy, Have you tried resin infusion using MTI Hoze?
No catch pot, no dry spots, no bubbles. it takes the place of the spiral hoze in a RTM, but the hoze has a microporous membrane that is permeable to gas but impermeable to resin. It works.
