Here is the new GP265 Sport 12, 26" sport hydro. It has a 4.25" wide engine well. As you can see I am working on a new cowling plug. This one is for FE, and then I will modify the plug to make a nitro cowling afterwards. The pics you see are after 4 hours of work total. Weight so far is only 1 lb 5 oz with all the wood parts on the scale, so its gonna be a light one! Enjoy, Mike

PS, to the N class guys out there, whats a good heat motor for a hull like this??? Opinions needed so I can rig it!

The Neu 1515 0.5Y is a solid N2 motor.

1515 seems a bit large for a small lightweight hull. I just want 50mph out of this hull as i feel that will be a fun speed for it. I have decided to run a tenshock sc401, 5200kv, 36x63mm motor. Should be plenty of power to get it moving. Mike

Well, The hull itself is built. I have had it done for a week, just not time to upload pics! With interior epoxied, and one coat of exterior epoxy the hull weights in at 1lb 9.8oz, which I think is really reasonable! Enjoy, MIke

Let us know how your motor works out Mikey. Pick'ins for a budget N class motor are slim. Are the Feigao's not being made any more?? The N Mono that I purchased from Dick has a Feigao 6L which Doug recommeded.

cybercrxt

Yes, they are slim at a good price for that class of boat. I spoke with Doug the other day and he said to go with the 4600kv version of the Tenshock sc401. Right now tho, due to lack of spare change, I am going to throw a UL-1 motor in it with 4s 5250mah setup just so I can get the boat tested. Once funds get better I will switch it over to the 2s setup with hi amp esc setup. Mike

Oh, and I do not know about the Feigao's. Looks like Steve is removing them from the site??

I finally have a motor coming to run this with. a Neu 1512 4875kv, with fightercat 2-8s 240a esc. I still have to get the cowling mold done. Been out of town and busy at work! Mike

Well, got the batteries and motor for the GP265. I have not had any time to work on this thing lately. Still have to make the cowling mold. I sure hope to get it done soon. 10000mah's, 2s power, 35c hyperion packs, Neu 1512 1d 4875kv, fightercat 2-8s 240 or castle hydra 240lv esc. As you can see there is plenty of room! Mike

You ought to be able to get your 50 mph with that motor.:w00t:
The boat looks great Mike.

Haha, Kevin Shearin hooked me up with the motor, and the 2s hyperion packs what can I say! 50mph, hmm, we used the same can, 1512, to set the P O/B Tunnel record with a 71.29mph pass on a bigger, heavier 30" tunnel boat that has more water drag than this hydroplane will...You know Doug, your right, I might get 51mph from this sucker! :confused1:

Well, after such bad luck working on the gas tunnel cowling plug, I had a bit of good luck. Got the cowling mold finished, just need to buff and polish as its been final sanded with 1000 grit. Got a couple cowlings for an AU order done for the gp335 and gp400 series, and got some of the hardware figured out on the GP265 test hull. As you can see, its running speedmaster hardware, Neu 1512 1D motor, hyperion 2s packs, and fightercat 2-8s, 240a esc with external cap bank. Motor is just put in there, not mounted yet as I wanted to check some space requirements first! Looks like its all gonna fit! Even got my special Dick Tyndall custom Sport 12 skid fin! Enjoy, Mike

Well, I could not be happier. The new cowling mold worked great and produced and awesome cowl for the gp265. I made this down where the user could keep it one piece, cut it into two so you have fiberglass hatches for the front and rear, or just use the wood rear hatch with the glass front hatch. I think this one looks the best of all the gp boats as it has more of a drop sponson design due to extending the center section forward to help fit 2s big packs. Can't wait to finish the fitment of hardware, clearcoat it, and get to testing! Mike

Sucess! Ran the gp265 yesterday, and like its bigger brothers, it just cuts threw the rough stuff and its fast! Very enjoyable hull to drive! Here are some pics painted. I will post some with everything installed tonight..ran out of time! And yes, its orange so its visible. Small hulls blend in way to easy!!! Mike

Hey Todd,

No, that was one that I ran a few times, then I had a local want to set the N Sport Hydro Saw record and he needed a hull asap, so I sold him my personal one, and I have not had the time to build myself another. He has been over 70mph in Saw trim with it, and its the older v1 hull. Sorry! Mike

In my kit I just opened up it has a part that is similar but, smaller than 1R and 1L bu, it is labelled "C" ??? I went through the main build thread but, could not find any mention of it. Any ideas guys?

Curious to what prop you ran with that motor?

Figured it out, it's the tail end broken off of the right main sponson plate.

I just glued it in place with CA.

Ray, Sorry for the delay in replying. I will see what 1c is as I don't remember. Also, definately add floatation! Talk soon, Mike

It's O.k. I figured it out. It was the tip of the tail end of one sponson side. It was easy to fix and I have that sponson already framed up. Love the way the kit builds but, I'll have more questions later. Thanks Mike, I know you are busy.

The tops of my 2L & 2R pieces do not match the height of the outside sponson pieces that look like a 6" knife blade as all the pictures show. I have already started to make a 1/8 x 1/8" bent strip to add for gluing surface area. Do you want a picture?

cybercrxt
06-05-2014, 08:27 AM
Please take a pic before adding anything additional. My intention there is to sand flush. How much difference are you seeing there? Mike

ray schrauwen
06-05-2014, 09:22 AM
It looks to have a difference of approx. 3/32" to 1/8" that's why I tacked in a 1/8" strip. It's only tacked in at one end and can easily be removed. I just thought, whoa, that's a lot of material to remove and what is the contour going to be since it's the only high spot?

Take a look

Oh lord, I see what happened. When I redid the kit to the V2 kit, I forgot to adjust the height of that outside "knife" shaped piece of sheeting at the middle frame. You need to sand that down to match the framing as the frame height is correct. The front and rear of the knife will stay the same, the middle will be sanded like the following. Sorry about that. I remember when I was doing the V2 of the 265 I was in a rush as I was trying to get Darin Jordan's order out and that was something I told him I was going to do to the kit before it left for him. So Darin, your will need this change too!

Sorry!!!!!!!

I'll print out the picture for reference. Thanks for the quick response Mike!!

What is really cool is that the pic you gave me when printed out is the exact size of the part, so all I have to do is cut the pattern out and trace it to the pieces.
