I'm in the process of draining my LIPOs to a storage voltage. What is the best voltage for safe storage without damaging the LIPOs? JIM:spy:

Hi Jim, In "store mode" my Hyperion discharges/charges my cells to 3.84v per cell. I just checked the voltage at balance tap after 7 days of storage.

Are there any problems with LIPO storage at 3.0 volts per cell? JIM:spy:

Hi Jim...

Been storing mine for the past several winters not at a particular voltage, but rather at 50% capacity. I charge them fully and then discharge them on the charger to half their rated capacity.

No problems so far...

I have some brand new never used NEU cells that read 3.84v per cell.

I also have some new Hyperion 5000mah 25c 2s packs that read 3.84v per cell. These packs are 2 years old and never used (never had connectors soldered on).

That's too low Jim.
Everything I have ever read suggests 3.7v-3.9v per/cell.

I use a Hyperion dual, which recommend a 60% storage charge..

That is correct Mappo.

3.85v

3.85v

And I believe that equates to around 50% charge capacity. My Dualsky charger has "storage mode" as 3.8V

That's interesting. I wonder why my HK QUATTRO 4 x 8 multi-charger has a DISCHARGE setting of 3V per cell, but has a STORAGE setting of 3.7V per cell?

Why the diffenence?

Will DISCHARGING to 3V cause any damage?

perfect storage is 3.85V/cell.
if you check a brand new lipo is at 3.85V/cell...
3,0V/cell is too bad: i use lipo up to 3,6V/cell, not less!

I've got 3 chargers and they all have a different voltage for their "storage mode". I have done everything from 40% to 80% over the last few years and have never really had any problems other then getting a few 4 cell packs woke up again after 7 months of storage. After about 5 runs in my boat they seem fine again after storing them at 70% last year.

I cycle new batteries a few times before use.
Charge to 4.2 .. then discharge to ~3.1v at~10A draw.. hastens polymer congruency or alignment or whatever people call it .. it 'does the trick'.
New design cells hold voltage higher for longer, will suddenly cascade to 3.0 when exhausted.. if your esc has a slow reaction to lvc reached, the pack will plummet further during than lvc those 2+ seconds if at high draw.
I run 3.2LVC... expecting a few moments around 3.0 under load.
rested will always return a higher V .. dont set lvc on rested voltage as accurate % of remaining charge.

This aids lipo life and yield IMHO.

oops.. what was the question ?
Storage voltage.. I use 3.85-3.90
