Hi
I am quire new to the model game after making a few as a child (only plastic airfix type kits) then a couple of ships a few years ago whilst recovering from surgery. Anyway, my son has expressed an interest in electronics and remote controlled items so we started thinking about a project would could both do and learn from each other.
So we have decided to start with a model kit, probably 1/350 scale - dont care what yet but i want to be able to teach him about each part required, transmitter, reciver, servos etc etc.

Anyway, i can roughly explain things but want to firstly check i know what i am talking about and then ensure i give him the correct terminology and get things right before we spend loads of my hard earned cash.

So, does anyone know either any books/magazines we could get hold of (we live in australia). Recommend any websites we can learn from?

You help is greatly appreciated

This should help. As a first boat, you want electric. And obviously you must be looking for a kit so you can build together. I wouldn't recommend something extremely fast either- just something reliable. DPI has just come out, and so their prices are really low. I looked around, and I would say this is the PERFECT boat for you. It is inexpensive for its quality and is just the right speed (20-25 mph, which may not seem like a lot but that is over twice as fast as you can sprint). It hasn't come out yet, but it will very soon. Anyway, here it is:

Hope this helps!

Thats good for FE but if he is wanting scale these are a few good places to start and ask questions.

ask those guys and they should have your answers but a scale build will take allot longer than a fe build maybe fe to get him started then slowly work on your scale build

Try looking at Dumas boat kits But i agree with hazegry kids dont realy like to wait long for anything, you might try a OSE hull and just put a little 20t brushed motor in it for now then teach him how to make it faster! whatever you do have fun its a great hobby!
