karlw, only using one channel for both motors. Thanks for the compliments from both you and srislash.
Here's the best run from today.

Nice work, that thing handles great!! you should send the vid to Ben for his site! way better than the one he has on there now.
Makes me want one even more...

what size props and are you spinning outward?
Nice vid, thanks!!

Thanks Jesse. Thought I'd wait until getting a little better vid before sending it to Ben. That was it's 1st outing (3rd run of the day 1st after switching props to outward rotation). I'm taking an inch off the stingers and putting Speedamaster bushings in them.
Those were X447's in the video. May try a couple of x442's on 6s after getting some 6s 4000 packs (or maybe still the 447's). I still have to s/b another 447 regardless. The port side flex broke at the stub on the 4th run.
I did a build thread on this one but it's over on RCG. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1641163

Scott's shhould be interesting too when he gets it finished. He's using a pair of 1515 2200's to spin on 4s which will make his a little bit lighter with about the same prop speed. Mine is a around 10.5 lbs with a pair of 5s 5000's

Looks real good Bill makes me want to build another twin.
Can't get over how that thing handles.

It's for sure a lot more stable than the DF Explorer I built.

So you are running the props to spin outward on top?
could you post up a pic of the transom?
how does she handle on chop?

bill34207
06-13-2012, 05:54 PM
Props are spinning out on the top Jesse. At the moment I haven't put props back on it, but can put up the shot I took at the lake Sunday with just one prop on it.
As for how it handles chop, will have to wait and run it in some before I'll know.

What motor mounts did you use?

bill34207
06-27-2012, 08:34 AM
Those were custom made in aluminum for me by Dave of HRC Mfg. He lives only a couple miles from me.
Here's a little vid of the bass wood test pattern cut (to check for fit) before making them from 1/8" aluminum plate.

PS Thanks SAW-USA. I was hoping to have more run videos by now but tropical storm Debby really messed up our boating last weekend.

so, how much do you think it would cost to talk him into another set? That is if they work well...
I'm wanting to get me one in a few weeks, so will be interested in the best mounts for the job. I think I will be using similar motors as you.

How do you like the struts?

I'd suggest emailing Dave for pricing on the mounts. hrcmfg@aol.com He actually has a couple different patterns progammed for them. I added 3 layers of carbon fiber cloth to mine in the area where the mounts were going and Scott had him do another set for his without the CF reinforcement.

On the stingers, I have shortened mine 1" from what they originally were and fitted them with speedmaster bushings. (check the build thread for more details) Haven't run it since making the mod though so don't know what effect it will have.

Only run I can recall where I've seen a Cheetah run in chop was back around the end of April Ron.

Yep that was my Sprincat. It had a lot less damage on it than the boat that hit it. Mine only had a scrape on the bottom of the sponson from being used as a launching ramp. The other one had some major fiberglass crunching.

as none of the boats were mine.....the first hit i cringed...the second i laughed...the third i rolled on the floor laughing.....once i can see...twice is bad...third time i figure theres a magnet in the red boat.....

I am looking at running twin Nue 1515 1y in mine. Does the last step on these hulls cause them to run wet ?. Looks like it angles down acting like a sort of trim tab.

bill34207

1515/1Y's would be an ideal motor ozzie. They are the same physical size as the HET's in mine and at 2200kv would make it very fast on 4s with less weight. I won't say the sponson design makes it run wet but it does run very flat even at speed. I originally set mine up with the props spinning inward and it plowed like a John Deere tractor. Spinning them out got rid of the front sponsons throwing spray and puts it in a nice flat ride attitude at speed. I got this one to the 60 mark last Sunday spinning 442's on 6s but didn't get video of it due to a camera malfunction.

Thanks Bill. Hope to get around the 60 mph mark myself. will start with 442s and go from there.

Got a 6s run on tape today. Chop slows a boat down regardless of what anybody says. This one GPS'd at 60 last Sunday when my video camera was broke. Today it was about 3 mph slower.

Thanks ozzie. Chris does a nice job with the video camera. I ran it later in the day too on 5s with the 447's after my Falcon cat cracked a drive dog and I didn't want to pull the packs from it down at home. It got pretty much airborne for a ways in this one but still kept the yellow & white side down. It handles the offset offshore course really well too. (As long as the steering servo mount doesn't knock itself loose. Guess I'm going to have to use some cloth and glass it in)

This one could have used some more zoom with the camera but one of our new members, Jeremy, shot this one.

nice job

Thanks Ripfence. I think this one still has some more speed left in it if I can get it trimmed to ride a little more nose up. Almost hate to mess with it though as right now it's handling the chop and turns really well. I let Chris inherit my old mean machine twin after building this one and on 5s it's only a few mph slower than this one on 6. It rides a lot more nose up and is more flighty though.

Just to update. Got some pretty good speed out of this one last Sunday at our test n tune. It doesn't turn as well spinning c/r 447's. In fact it doesn't turn at all with full throttle applied and 6s packs.

I know of what you speak Bill.My shocker doesn't like to turn with the 5018/3's on it.Just too much "posi" action.

That sucker looks and sounds so cool!
would it help in the turns to flip the props to spin the other direction you have now?

bill34207
08-19-2012, 03:08 PM
I originally started off with the props spining in (on the top) and it plowed like a John Deere tractor. It's kind of like srislash said with posi traction in the corners running the bigger props. It would still turn at full throttle on 6s with the 442's. The 447's give it about another 10 mph on top end but you have to back down to about 3/4 throttle to get it around a turn with them.
