Flex Shaft

I'm thinking about getting a Motley Crew but the local hobby shop has one of the original releases (I think it is based on how dusty the box is). Is the flex shaft really that bad? Have most people had to replace it (that were running 100% stock)?

Even the newer ones come apart. Buy yourself the flex shaft offered on this site if you want to eliminate the problem.
