Thanks proper, that looks like a very nice and active club. I might just go and visit someday. It is 365 miles away. Anyone know of a FE club in DFW or Oklahoma City areas. They are about 125 miles away.

I too have a 400 mile north [ Devil Mountain Water Boilers] or 400 mile east [ Mesa Model Boat Club] trip if I want to race. Caught a ride with Dan Chase to WW III in Phoenix, otherwise the ole' Cowboy Cadillac wouldn't have made it. Talked to the Dooz last night & he's got a good thing going in Colorado, waay far from LA. Coupla' nitro/gas clubs in LA but darn, no FE. November SAW's are a long time away, but close to home. Oh well

Pick a class, build a boat, & show up ! I walked on the grass at LA last Nov totally nervous and rather clueless and was immediately accepted & be-friended. All the Big Boys were just great, friendly, & gave freely of their advice & parts. And trust me, it's Very addicting ! So is oval heat racing, BTW !! :p

That was my experience also.:)
I went to FE-II in March of 06, talked to all of the Big Boys, asked about a million questions, took a whole pad full of notes, and caught the bug watching the pros set records.:D
I wasn't worth a crap for about a week after that.
Then I picked a class,( a tough one too) , did my homework, and went back in Dec. and EARNED a record.
It isn't easy, but there is nothing like it. I can't wait till September so I can try it again!!!;)

It was a nice surprise to discover this was happening so close to home. I had never heard anyone talk about having electric races in the Carrollton/DFW area. I will try to take some video and pictures to post.

I just found out about the event on Monday. I do not have anything ready to run in the LSH class. It also says the last registration day was Monday. Just going to take the boys down and watch some races and meet some people Sunday.

Sorry I'm late to this thread, I overlooked it somehow. We race twice a month at the HOTMBC. Usual classes are LSH, LSO, P-Sport Hydro, Q-Mono, and a few other pickups. Give a call before you come down, all the info is on the site... http://www.hotmbc.com

There will be at least seven FE racers at the Carrollton event. This is the third year the Dallas RC Thunderboaters have invited the HOTMBC (and any other FE boaters who can attend) to their Classic event. It is the full 1/6th mile fuel course, usually 5 laps for FE although we like to run 6 in LSH.

We'll be there tonight, Saturday and leaving Sunday. Look us up, we'll be under the tent without all the obnoxious noise emitting from it. ;)

Do you have a schedule for the electric races this weekend? I might want to go on Saturday instead?

Fluid
05-04-2007, 12:47 PM
The way the schedule works: Each class is run once - fuel and FE classes are alternated - then the rotation is repeated over and over. It usually takes 3-4 hours for one rotation; you can come either day and see us, we'll be there all the time.

I took a few pictures today at the Carrollton races. It was a really windy/nasty day, 15-20 mph winds with some drizzle. Seemed a little frustrating for the racers, but they were all smiling. There were 7 FE and 30 nitro/gas racers. The FE guys (met Ray Turner/Fluid) had about four boats each running in different classes. It was fun listening to their stories after each race. Got some on video and hope to post it later, after I convert it from DVD. ??? They were a bunch of nice guys, that did not mind answering questions, a fun bunch. It was also interesting talking to the nitro guys. Their excuse was that it was too expensive to race electrics. One guy told me how much it cost for each part in his gas boat and it totalled about $1500, others were more, so go figure? I did find one man (Eddie Cell) that had swapped to electric. The 25 pound boats had gotten to heavy for him. The heavier/larger fuel boats did have an advantage over electrics in the wind. The gas boats were using lantern fuel, since it is safer than running gasoline. The gas/nitros were running from 40 to 80 mph. I did like the gas boats they were racing, but they are way too loud for the lakes in Wichita Falls.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to come out and watch us! The videos are great reminders of all the fun we had, even though the wind and waves were pretty bad at times for the little boats we had. A race is always a hectic time, and I hope that we were able to spend enough time with you - I always worry about that with getting ready for the next heat, wrenching in boats, etc. I sure hope you all had a great time watching and visiting, and thanks for the photos and video. Come on down to Houston and run with us some time!! :)
