While being fairly new to this r/c boat, I found a alternative to taping the hatch that has served me well. I put in some 3/8 inch by 3/16 inch window self adhesive sealing foam in the groove of the hatch. When you put the hatch on the sharp edge pushes into the foam and seals quite well. I also moved the antenna to the transom and sealed up the hole in the hatch. I have had the boat flip and be in the water for about 10 mins. and only had a couple of tablespoons of water get in the boat. No water in the electronics.

Has anybody else tried something like this?

Side note: Top speed so far with 7 cell hump packs, x645 prop, all else stock was 40.8 mph read on a garmin gps.

I'm going to add the foam also, its cheap insurance when used with the tape. I feel that the tape adds strength in case the boat cartwheels hard and dislodges the batteries.

I have never had a leak while using tape. Taped properly you should have no issues.

Hi.

Remove the antenna and put it on the back of the transom.
Remove the hatch lock system.
Seal the holes with silicone.

Tape the hatch.

Not even 1 drop of water after 10minutes roll barrels, loops , subs etc :)

I run lipos 4s or 5s with CF45 ...:bounce:

I have used tape also, but I find it leaves a messy residue behind. Also there are the times you just think you are going to take it easy and won't need tape. The foam will keep water out of the hull long enough to rescue it without water getting to the electronics box. Everbody has there own way of doing things I just thought I would share what has been working for me.

Bill:

So are you saying by moving the antenna to the transom that the antenna is completely inside the hull? Can you post any picks of your antenna set up?
I am having a difficult time visualizing your antenna set up.
