Hi guys, I have a stock mystic and am having a little problem with it drifting to the left at lower speeds, at full tilt it is straight as an arrow, is this normal?. I have visually checked all the running gear and it all looks ok, any ideas would be much appreciated.

If the drift is minor and you have adjusted the trim on the radio so it is straight at full throttle, it is probably just the prop torque on initial acceleration.

Thanks for the info, I have just upgraded the prop to a X642 and it is a little worse on the drift but sorts its-self out at around half throttle and all good after then.

Great,
I have just changed to the X642 on my Mystic Cat and strting to adjust the strut to maximize speed and handling.
Good Luck

I have my strut set flat to the bottom of the hull when its sat on a flat surface and its running great with the X642, how did you get on setting yours up? Just waiting for a M445 now to give that a spin.

I had to file down about 1/8" of the stuffing tube that gave me a lillte room to adjust the strut down (Negative pitch) then I set the strut the same as you, even with the hull bottom. This adjustment took the propoising out of the boat and running 2 X 2S on the stock engine, Seaking 180 ESC and 2 X 5000mAmp with a S/B X642 the boat hit 40.2 on the GPS.
I would be interested to know what speed you get with both the X642 and the M445. All temps were below 110 degrees,

39.6 is my best so far with X642 on identical set up, hoping to break the 40. I will try a bit of negative pitch as you have, all running nice and cool as I run in a saltwater bay and the water temp is freezing (uk summer time!!!!!) M445 should be here tomorrow, so weather pending, hoping try it out in the evening.

Good Luck,
I run on a freshwater lake behind the house so I can make changes and get back to the work bench and tweak things to see what improves or doesn't. I am lucky that the water is like glass in the morning and evenings so without wind I can get some nice runs. I think the fact that the boat no longer porpoises is probably where I picked up the speed. I may try to raise the strut a small amout and see if that increases speed. Very interested in the M445 effect.

Stock motor, seaking 180a, X642 = 41.55mph, with the M445 = 44.21mph and all pretty cool. Very happy!

Those numbers are very good, especially with the temps remaining good. I may try a M445 in the future.
I raised my strut a bit but I dropped to 38.2 mph. I have set it back to the previous mark and gave it a bit more negative pitch. I will post the results after my next run.

I have been doing a few mod to my mystic, with great results!! Leopard 3660 2700kv on 4s, X642, speeds are at 54.5!! just a little trouble keeping it on the water. Going to try a M440 to try to unload the motor a bit.

Very impressive speeds. I have been off the water for a month or so. It is summer and I do a lot of fishing. Your boat looks real good and the speeds are really great. I may try the M445 to jump back into the 40's and work on a new motor during the winter and as well as blue printing the hull. I see you added a water pick up and also fiberglass mat on the Hull.

Did the bullet nut on the shaft make any difference in speed or just nice looks.
Thanks

Hi John
I think the bullet nut does make a tiny difference to the speed but its only about 1/2 to 1 mph, it seems to make the prop run a bit smoother, a bit more streamlined. The second water pickup was added as an experiment when i put the M445 prop with the 2700kv motor, the boat flipped at around 3/4 throttle with a reading of 59.6mph!! way too much prop for that motor and the pickup adds quite a bit of drag. The Carbon Kevlar cloth was added so i could fit a new motor mount, it really stiffened up the hull and makes it so much easier to get batteries in and out, it also runs alot quieter with the wood removed. M440 has arrived now so will post results when i can get to the water.
Cheers.

Ian,
Thanks for the update, I guess I am going to add the cloth to the winter project list. You are getting great speed out of the boat.
We have so much boat traffic on my lake that it is better for RC in the spring ,winter ( if it doesn't freeze) and fall when there is no boat traffic.
Now I have to pick my times early morning or evening.
Talk later
