I saw this on Ebay and couldnt resist, although for what i got its a real bargain.

Its a near scale model of the original Miami Vice boat and was custom built for a man several years ago, he died and his buddy sold it. I'm 95% sure it will be big brushless, it has a 91 OS Max engine that is almost pristine and comes with two scale, cast outdrives. Its called a Dumas 38 Scarab and its a whopper at 60" long......:w00t:......cant wait til I get her!!!

Any and all mojo suggestions are welcome, I do want to run the stock "scale" prop, so i need to find out the size to better get and idea of kv/cells etc.................

looks like it'll be a whole lot of fun, good luck with the build.

Nice find. I've got a complete undrilled 40" Dumas Scarab sitting in my shop for a couple years now. My sister found it at a garage sale for $15. Thought about putting it together several times now but can never figure out what to power it with, it's one heavy boat.
I like that scale outdrive. I'll be watching this thread for sure.

Thanks Gents........................I'm really excited, the man is very nice and its being shipped from PA.................dont even try to guess what that cost me.......... ....he said it looks like a "coffin" at 6 feet long.....LOL.

Anyhoo.....................Castle 2028 on 8s2p????????? Neu 2215 750kv on 8s2p..............????? I dont believe I will need big rpm's with a 3 blade gasser prop..............

I think I'll run it once with the OS before I decide to take it out...............sure i will though, and then I may use it in a go cart for my son as I believe it puts out about 3.5-4 hp.

I ran that hull with a Picco .90 back in the 80's. It was just a single prop though. It was a bullet!

Tell me more! This is a single outdrive/prop too! Is the 91 OS motor decent? How fast was yours? What'll this one do????

Is that enough questions..............LOL

That hull brings back memories.

IF that OS is in stock timing condition, it should get that hull going about 40-45MPH.
Those OS 90 RSR marine motors were timed very mild.
I used to run those back in the 80's in Water Spider outriggers. I used to bump the timing up
pretty good to make good power and to keep up with the piccos.
make sure the bearings are in good order before firing it up.
you can not get spare parts for those babies any more except the carb.

IF you run it before converting it over to FE, BRACE the stuffing tube close to the collet/u-joint
assembly on the motor. With that distance from the motor to the stuffing tube brace, the shaft will
more than likely start to whip and there ya go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If that is an AMPS outdrive (sure looks like it) make sure it has oil in it before you fire it up.
there should be a fill and a drain set screw on it some where. been too dang long for
me to remember.

Yes sir Carl, i was told it holds oil in it by the guy who sold it to me.

The motor is 91...............you mentioned a 90, is the 91 better?

If I would've seen that you would've had a bidding war.Very nice find indeed. You're gonna need a trailer for it though.

Yeah.................but I'm sneaky, I waited til 3 seconds left and added my bid which was about $300 higher than the "current" bid at the time...............it still ran up another $200 based on the other guys max bid so I eeked out by $100................I'm sure he was pissed.

the motor is an OS 90RSR Marine
they made 2 versions, one ringed piston and the other an ABC set up.

the 91's are a different motor all together. (rear intake rear exhaust)

Is the 91 any good, so it could get it going up to the mid 40's? It may stay in!

you'll need a teal sports jacket to run this boat...

The O.S. .91 was a ducted fan engine.

That OS 90 might get that big hull into the 40's.
worth a shot

So the one in this boat is not an OS 91? Is it a 90?

carlcisneros

Yes, it is a 90 RSR Marine.

There have been some folks that have taken the OS 91 Ducted fan engine and turned them into Marine motors.
