What hardware did you change?

I am putting the Mini hydro strut on her and having the rudders (brackets & blades) reproduced in billet aluminum plus the rudder blades will be 1/4" longer.

That is gorgeous...I want those ridders. Any way others may obtain them?

Yes, but they are pricey because they are custom.

I would be the creator of those rudder assemlies. Give me a pm we can talk... I have considered a short production, considering the interest in this hull.... A few others have expressed interest also...

I would want one! I think anywhere from $25 to $45 would be worth it.

thanks

Hey guys,
I have decided to go with an AMMO 28-35-5100 and the Mamba 25 esc. I have also put in a R200 for my JR radio. The boat actually lost weight fromt the conversion. I have converted it to a .047 wire drive by heating up the prop shaft and pulling out the stock cable and soldering in the wire. I am running the stock steering hardware for now. But I was considering the micro blue rudder on this site.
Steve is that micro blue rudder available seperately?

Ya, if they were mass produced. These are custom my friend!

Ya 25-45$ would be a nice price.. But unfortunately these are not cnc'd. each pc is hand cut on a hand cranked bridgeport. There are alot of set-ups when doing these part. I wish I could sell them for that price. A pr of rudders takes about 6 hrs of work. Due to the size of the parts smaller cutters must be used and cuts must be made slower. . I want to see a test run vid of how they perform and handle. I am sure they weight more than the plastic ones whick in turn changes the c/g. I will want feedback from Diego before I do anymore. I am sure there are changes I should make. Dave Hay Danny you run that thing yet??lol

Hopefully, she will only get 1 run before moving to Hawaii. She will get additional runs if there needs to be some tweaking done.

No. Ira asked me to build this boat. He lives in Hawaii. The boat will be going there, not me! :(
Here's more pics of the HW install. I used blind nuts to mount it. I took the strut off due to weight. The benefit of having it on didn't justify the weight.
I did, however, make it look better. Now it matches the rudders!

Yes I have to work on getting them listed that way.

Is the mini rio a better handling smaller boat because its rear is much lower? Better than a mini v. I may get just this hull and use parts from my mini v brushless
conversion.

Has anyone tried a 3S with the stock electronics yet? How did it do heat wise?

Also, it appears that the combo RX/ESC unit connects to a standard 3 wire servo unlike the Mini V, is that true?

Do they also work on standard 27Mhz AM frequencies? If they don't, that could be an issue for me, because I hear the crystals are not removable and I need another cheap AM radio like a fish needs a bicycle!

I am wanting to retrofit my Mini V with this RX/ESC unit if the answers to the above questions are yes.

Thanks,
Brad

I have not tried it with a 3s lipo, but I can promise you that the motor will get very hot and won't last long and I am betting that the esc won't either and since the servo is getting direct voltage from the battery through the esc, that it won't last long either.
Just to let you know, I have a Traxxas TQ3 up for sale for $50.00 plus shipping. It is in like new condition.

Wheelnut,
Thanks for the info, I guess I better sell my 3S battery and get a 2S instead. Have you had any range issues with your MR? I still want to use the MR Rx/ESC if it is decent because it is so much cheaper, lighter, and appears to be so much better than the Mini V Rx/ESC.
Thanks,
Brad

I only drove my rio once with the stock radio, I didn't notice any range problems with it. I quickly upgraded by putting one of my micro receivers for my JR radio in it along with a brushless system.

Kmot,

What is the "C" rating on the 3s lipo? I have a couple of 3s, 1100mah, 12c lipo's lying around. The Mini Rio looks like a good place to put them to work... IF they fit.

I just don't like the looks of the very light (18 ga.?) wire in the stock setup.

Chop: This particular battery is rated 23C. The first time I ran it, the battery wire insulation started to melt slightly. I removed the esc from the boat, cut the wires down to 1/2" pigtails, and soldered on 16ga wires. I believe the stock wires are 20 or 22 ga.

Here is a video I made from saturday. I tried my brushless the next day but it made my batteries so hot i couldnt touch them so I converted back. I think the brushless needs a 3s pack not a 2s pack, any suggestions?

My rio lasted 1.5 laps on 3s before taking a dump, I do not advise 3s on stock esc.

If you are referring to the rudders....................They are not currently available. By this manufacture.
