I am in the market for a good DUEL charge (or higher) lipo charger, AC/DC up to 6s

Who makes a good one? I was thinking about the Hitec x4 ac/dc, any thoughts? is it good or crap or any other chargers I should look at?

Thanks.

I have a Hyperion and the screen goes all wierd and it only works "some of the time" So I know its supposed to be a good charger but I think some other company will get my money this time.

you should contact the distributor. i had one that was out of warranty that went dead and they sold me a new one at their cost. The key word here is Good personally most of the Hobbyking have much higher failure rates and a lot are not very accurate. i think you are really looking for Cheap not good

I use these. This is perfect for charging 1 battery at a time. Its AC or DC http://www.xheli.com/73p-ac680-accharger.html It has every type of connector and comes with heat sensors to attach to the batteries so the charger can monitor temps and of course you can see everything on on your computer using USB. This one I use for my Spartan race boat that uses two 8.400 mah 11.1v lipos at once. http://www.xheli.com/75p-t6-multi-charger.html I charge all 4 of the huge lipos I run at once, or 4 of any type of battery at once. This big boy is pure DC. and needs this to run on a/c current.
http://www.xheli.com/77p-g350-powersupply.html This is a serious power supply and all of this stuff has multiple cooling fans. Of course the T-6 runs off your car battery too.

i think $200-75 should buy me something decent right, I mean I'm not a racer so I don't want to blow $400 on some charger.

I have 2 of these and a 24 volt power supply. A good charger is a very wise investment.

What model of hyperion that you currently have? If it's broken, would you be interested in selling it?

Hyperion all the way.....

I use three Hyperions; all older models. Once discontinued, little chance of getting replacement parts. There's lots of inexpensive chargers out there but look at the watt output - most are underpowered. Here's my recommendation if you want the most bang [800 watts] for the buck and is backed by a USA company with a reputation for good custy service:

http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/TP820CD.html

Get a deep cycle car/marine battery to use on site; ac chargers won't plug in lakeside. ( most of the ac/dc chargers out there are for r/c car guys who charge SINGLE packs at the track where there's a/c available - high power dual chargers are typically dc only)

If your are going to get serious about the hobby...... HYPERION. I've got two Duo's and my son has a smaller AC/DC model.

Be weary of the "numbers" hype of cheaper chargers. They will tout being able to charge up to 6s and 5 amps. But if the output is 50 watts, they will only be able to charge 6S pack at a little more than 2 amps.

Output wattage is the real number you have to look at. Also many higher wattage AC/DC chargers have a reduced wattage output in AC mode. I use a deep cycle battery at the pond and have a computer power supply I converted for charging at home and when I bring the generator to a race.

Two excellent points here :

#1 - Most of the budget chargers being touted as "the next best thing" are severly underpowered. Do the math and don't be influenced by the ad hype.

#2 - The built in power supplies in ac/dc chargers , in order to have a compact unit, are also limited to how much they supply to the dc circuit, inhibiting the ability to charge at a decent rate.

The top of the line Hyperion puts out 1000 watts, has two screens to watch each of two packs while dual charging, and is one to consider along with the TP.

Very impressed with my buddies cellpro, Think a powerlab would be my next charger if funds are available if/when that happens.
The PL8 is a 40 amp 1350watt charger. They seem to be popular with the plane crowd but not so much with boaters.
Need a serious power supply to get that out of it though.

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about - At 150 Watts max you'd need 6.66 of these to equal one Hyperion Duo

Mike the AC/DC models are ususally lower powered and the 24 volt units have a high output. There may be one out there but I don't know of one.

FYI - At D12 races and at the D13 race I attended last year, my son and I raced a 4S2p P-Mono and three P-spec boats and we had plenty of time to charge packs with one Duo.

I just bought a Powerlab, it's pretty slick I like it. I'm using a 24v 47amp ps at home and a deep cycle (or 2) at the pond. I hadn't heard much about these chargers either until I read about them on the heli forums. Waiting for the new parallel board that's on per-order. It all easily fits in a Rubbermaid toolbox, there are pics of some pretty nice portable charger setups on the heli forums as well. Search for "portable charging stations".

I have 2x Hyperion 720 duo's, and 2x 24v maxamps power supplies. The whole setup works exceptionally well, you can balance charge 2 packs at the same time in the instance you were running 6s2p you'd have perfectly balanced packs. I have had them at 20a output per side and charged 8x 6s packs in a row (4x pairs) and the charger and power supply didn't even break a sweat! I weighed up the power lab and other chargers but I'm really happy with my decision.

I went through this discussion when on got into the hobby on several forums, both the Hyperion and icharger were tops in recommendations.

IMHO forget the dual stuff, basically you are getting 2 smaller chargers under the hood connected together. I personally would rather go for 2 single chargers of good quality and then depending on amp output required go to the appropriate size. At least if one goes you still have a backup.

I personally bought 2 of these because I wanted the higher output (20A) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F10382%5F%5FiCharger%5F206B%5F300W%5F8s%5FBal ance%5FCharger.html If I had to do it over again I would go with a little smaller version (10A) at less cost like this. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F6792%5F%5FiCharger%5F106B%5Fplus%5F250W%5F6s %5FBalance%5FCharger.html
