Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and brand new to R/C boats. I just purchased the Shockwave 26 Brushless and I've been seeing a lot of negative reviews on this boat. Ive read a lot about the driveshaft being bent from the factory and a lot of the ESCs being smoked in guys boats. Just wondering if I should upgrade the ESC in my boat and what do I need to get? I'll be running Dynamite Speedpack 5300 mAh 7.4 V 2S 30C Li-Po batteries in my boat.

Yeah Mine is brand new so I'm hoping they have all the bugs worked out of it now.

I guess it don't matter the size of the boat, rather it's my full size real one or my smaller rc one. Just another hole in the water to throw money in just different size hole.

I've got one with the blue esc, metal prop, fun boat to learn from, I beat the crap out of mine, sank once, still keeps going, my daughters are learning to drive it now.

I was debating on getting the Impulse 26, but it has only a brushed motor and I wanted a little bit more performance. I'm thinking about getting the Impulse 26 for my wife to start out on. That way she can have some fun too and don't have to stand there and watch me. She can get in on the action too.

Yea, but the impulse has a better driveline setup, which would make for easier upgrades, I'm about to start a conversion on mine soon.

Really, I thought having the steerable drive system would have better handling.

Not really, and you can only go so fast before it will start coming apart, ie new motor, more power, etc...

Oh ok, well it will be fast enough for me right now to get my feet wet. I eventually want to build a race boat.

No not yet. Still waiting on a lipo cell balancer for my charger. Can't wait to run it though.

I ran my Shockwave the other day and I like this boat. It handles really good. The only complaint I have is the boat stand. Im going to make a new one.

Make sure you tape the lid on, it will blow off in a violent crash, don't ask me how I know:sinking-guy:

Most of the new ones already have the metal prop.

Got any vid? No, just took pictures of it. I may get out and run it this weekend at another lake in the area. I may bring my wife with me so she can video it.

It is a great boat for the beginner mid 30s to upper 30s. It is what I call my go to boat, throw a batt.pack in it and have fun.

yes, all white hull.

MNinichuck

Yes it's an all white hall and it comes with 3 different color schemes to apply to it. I chose the blue color scheme. The blue to me looked a lot better then the rest. The battery I'm using is a Dynamite Speedpack 5300 mAh 7.4 V 2S 30C Li-Po battery. I'm new to rc boating and watched a bunch of videos on youtube. I watched the video posted by Horizon Hobby and this is the battery they used. being a brand new boat I didn't want to burn anything up so I went with the sure thing.

No, I dont have the ability to check speed yet. Eventually I will get a GPS to check it. I've only ran my boat once and I didn't run it a full speed very much. I want to get use to driving it first. I'm hoping it gets mid to upper 30's

MNinichuck what city do you live in? I live in parma. I live in Felicity. It's about 35 miles southeast of Cincinnati, and about 5 miles north of the Ohio River. Parma is up near Cleveland isn't it ?

SirBudman32 already answered the color question, but thank you anyway - and I definitely agree that the blue scheme is the nicest.

Do you have the abilitity to check speed?? -- If yes, are you getting the mid to upper 30's that crash440 stated??

Thanks Again

Thought I would reply to this. Mine did 23mph on a NIMH battery according to the GPS (Garmin Car GPS inside the boat) and about 29mph with the 2s 20c lipo. So I would guess 30 MPH at least without the added weight of the GPS. The boat is faster on the 2s 25c Lipo's that I have now too, just haven't done a speed test. Flipped the boat on take off the first time with the new battery due to the boost in power lol.

I'm running 2s 30c so I'm asuming that it would be faster than 25c lipos.

On 5000mAh 2S, around 27-31mph depending on prop. My highest speed was with an Octura Y535, with the ProBoat stainless prop I got about 28-29mph.

Yeah, I want to try different props for it, but I'm a little afraid to because i dont want to burn out the ESC. Thinking of starting a new project boat

I actually use a Hobbywing Seaking 60A ESC in this boat because I found the motor was pulling about 45-50A continuously with the ProBoat stainless prop, and about 55-60A with the bigger Octura Y535 according to my Eagle Tree logger. I think that the Proboat ESC is probably conservatively rated at 30A continuous, but that's why some people have had problems with their ESCs after upgrading to some Octura props.

I have also run the boat on 3S lipo with a small plastic prop (Octura X431) which gave me about 35mph, but also drew about 65-70A continuously.
