Hi all

Just got a Hobbywing Seaking 180a from OSE, I notice it already has an extra cap bank.

I bought extra caps from OSE because i was going to make my own and add it.

I was not expecting the ESC to have a cap bank, is this a newer version or something??

Cheers

So the caps on the ESC are 35v 1000μF x3

The extra caps on the cap bank are 35v 470μF x4

Sweet mate! Thanks for clarifying that!

So im guessing this would be a Version 3?? There are no marks on it that say what version it is.

I don't think it's a Version 3. It's still the same version 2. they just added a cap bank.

Those are about the thinnest wires ever connecting caps to an ESC. I can`t see those handling any current. Weird.

Yeah I have one too. I went ahead and added two more 1000uf caps plus plus the additional cap bank. Thinking about removing the bank now. The 20 ga wires are too small.

Look at the wires on all the individual caps all of us install. They are about as thin as it gets. But plenty thick.

Also all the new SeaKing esc's now come with that extra cap bank.

Steve is 100% correct. The leads on the caps themselves are 24ga. 18 or 20ga wire is more then enough. A cap bank is necessary to smooth out the current ripple and support voltage depression. Not conduct a bunch of extra amperage. Most caps the size we use can only provide milliamps on instant demand anyways. So wire gauge is not critical with short leads.
