Can I use a rechargeable battery pack in the Pro Boat transmitter rather than using alkaline batteries??

Pro Boat told me "NO". You have to use alkaline batteries.

??? I'm not sure why THAT would be... Rechargable NiMH cells ARE only 1.2V/cell, vs. 1.5V for Alkalines, but I've used them for 2-years without any issues...

A nice alternative are the new NiZn cells that Horizon cells... They are 1.6V/Cell. You can buy them with their charger for around $30.00...

Sorry, What I meant was that I couldn't replace the battery tray with a rechargeable pack like in a normal transmitter.

OK, that makes more sense... Nope... you just have to fit it with 4 loose AA cells, but I just confirmed with Spektrum/Pro Boat that the rechargeable NiMH will be just fine...
