I need a tug boat. A BIG ONE.

I need a tug boat big enough to pull a kayak. Suggestions?

Plan to rig it up for about 8mph with a big low kv outrunner.
Might take some low RPM prop suggestions too as it progresses. I suppose it won't be a surface piercing prop, lol.

I recall Doby had one big enough for a few lead acid batteries. That size might work.

Does it need to be RC control frrom the shore? Why not just attach a trolling motor to the kayak?

lol... not from shore, but yes, RC. It's going to pull a few things, a kayak is one of them. =)

The kayak is an ocean kayak and they sell a motor kit for it which is nice for personal use. Fits right in the foot pedal position.

This is for a neat project where it will get to tug another scale boat as well as a kayak. And a retrieval rig if it works out right. he he.

Doby! That's like it! What did it take to build it? I'm not such a skilled modeler when it comes to wood kits.

I actually found it for sale locally, already built....It now has been upgraded with wood decks, new running hardware, working water pumps for the fire monitors, and a working bow thruster.

Yep, that's the kind I'm looking for. Doesn't have to be quite so scale, but that's it.

I just ordered a hull sight unseen from a manufacturer... Will see what happens.

Find a shaft replacement and run that "little" screamer you tested on 24S

This is my buddies tug. It runs on 12v and had been running it for over an hour before this was shot.

Now we're on track. That's exactly what I need it to do.... In a 5 - 6mph current.

It's hard to tell but that pond has tons of current. About how much weight you need to pull? I am not 100% sure but I think this one was only a single prop and he has a bigger more powerful one that is twin screw. I haven't seen him in a while and my info may be a bit skewed.

The Kayak is about 50 lbs and the dog is another 45lbs. So about 100lbs in an Ocean kayak. The dog loves to swim, kayak and has a life jacket. It'll be novel to tug her around in the kayak by a tugger.

Then that's totally possible. I'll try to get more info for you, meanwhile check rcgroups. Lots of scale tug guys there.
