schulze esc repair cost

hi guys,

ran my new aeromarine xxx today and water killed my shulze 40.160v16
i am so pissed right now...nothing like losing your best controller because of a leaky drive system...does anyone know how much icare charges for repair or should i just throw away 550.00?

i will give you mine input based in already happened to me:

It will be difficult to give a repair price without knowing what´s damaged.....Last time that mine catched water burned 4 fets and fet driver.....Fet driver when catch water is what MOSTLY cause severe damage to the speed controller, because it turns on or off all Fet drive phases :flammes-09:

The repair to mine was about 100 euro= 140$ USD

ALtough the last one catched half salted water and in 5 minutes corroded wire lines in the PCB...Schulze told me...Forget it...Irreparable.....

It´s the best i can help....

P.S if you send them the ESC they will give you an 90% aprox repair cost...and after that you will decide if you should get an new one or fix that!:wink:

The last time I sent a 40-160 in to Schulze (iCare does not repair them, you have to send it to Germany) was just over a year ago. The repair was $85 including shipping. It depends on what is wrong of course, could be more or less. While it was there i had them add a few caps to it, nominal charge.

If all it did was get wet with fresh water it is probably worth it to have it repaired. Priced a new one lately? :crying::ohmy::scared:

Schulze has been pretty reasonable about repairing items from my experience. In general you are probably looking somehwhere between $100 and $250 including shipping back to you. Assuming you have not damaged a lot of FETS, they will probably just replace any water logged components or burned FETS. I have had my mine back multiple times and they have been pretty reasonable. They will give you a detailed breakdown of the cost when its repaired.

why have you had to send it back multiple times? are they reliable?

I have sent mine back several times becuase I was using them hard in SAW applications or they got wet beyond a short period. Under their rated conditions they work very reliably.

thanks for reply more questions ok? running a single neu 2230 725 kv 12 s 40 c batts fightercat 16 s 400 amp esc. last month no power pulls any prop on plane from x-462 thru 1967 /3 blade but no rpms maybe half throttle power at wide open. esc arms fine and end points set. how do i determine what the problem is ? very frustrated . batteries are 2 year old firefox from fine design. somethings wrong how do i find what it is? thanks oh, running a 19 lb twin 90 size rigger.

The popular ones are 32.202wk's, 40.161wk's and 40.434wk's. The 32.200wk is the same as the 40.160wk with lower voltage caps and higher capcitance. It's rated up to 10S as opposed to the 40.160wk which goes up to 14S. If you are running a legal boat I would opt for the 32.200wk over the 40.160wk.

The 40.334wk is a much larger footprint speedo suitable for large models.

urbs0007, I would suggest starting a new thread to diagnose your rigger. Off hand, a 2230 1Y on 12S running a 1967/3 is way too much prop. Sounds like you are thermalling the speedo. Post pics and set-up in a new thread and we'll try to make suggestions.
