what are you running for batteries?

I found this on another thread, update the speed control and go nuts.

        Impulse 31
        Stock – 32mph on 4S-45C
        Stock – 47mph on 6S-25C
        Stock – 47mph on 6S-50C
1.9” Prop – 48mph on 6S-25C (Yes, we know you told us not to try this prop with this setup, and as you warned, we fried the ESC on this setup)

havent decided on batts yes once i figure on motor and esc then i will decide i know i will be running either 2 3s or 4s in series so 6s or 8s i would like to see 60mph at least. The only problem i have with going 8s is it really limits my choice of esc

right now i think this will be my setup and it changes minute by minute

          1 hobbywing 180amp esc
          1 castle 10amp bec
          1 Leopard 4082 Motor 1450kv
          2 ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 3S1P 40C
          1 Octura x645 prop

That setup is VERY similar to mine and won't get you guaranteed 60. I was 54-56 yesterday and running pretty dang dry on a finished and balanced prop.

On the specs given it calcs out to 57mph so very close to actual runs done. You may have a better chance of 60+ mph with the 4082/2y 1600kv as this setup in the Spartans is into mid 60s mph. I simply wouldnt try the 180amp esc on 8s either youll get smoke, Stick to 6s on thar esc.

Seems to me like it's gonna start to get pretty heavy with that much battery in it. Got my Leopard 4074 on the way and a few props to test! Can't wait to see what she'll do with double the HP and a little more prop!!!!

                    Martin-

How did you determine "with the specs given it calcs out to 57mph" if I may ask? I am specing out a Leopard 4074 2150kv 2Y on a Seaking 180 ESC on 4s2p lipo. I was planning to try a x445 or M445 prop. I was guessing that at 3.7*4*2150 I would turn 31,820 rpms.... but have no clue how you can derive a "spec speed" bassed on that!

                    Do tell!!

And if anyone else wants to tell me that this motor / esc combo is a bad idea then speak up now before I hit the BUY button!!

go to the top of the page. there is a tab for the speed calculator, should be able to figure it out from there. also multiply 31820 by .8 to factor in 80% motor efficiency

                        63mph

I've hit 63mph reliably with the following setup on my Impulse 31:

                        Leopard 4082 2200kv
                        Turnigy 180 ESC
                        Prather s225
                        Two 3 cell's in series
Steven's upgraded flex shaft (a must)

                          c_michael_72-

                          Couple of quick questions:

                          1) is that the "2Y" 2200 kv Leopard motor? If you (or anyone) can explain the technical variable on that one I would appreciate it, as the 2D, 3D, etc stuff is what I am uninformed about while making potential selections.

                          2) I would guess that with 4s2p on your set up the Impulse might top out around 50?

                          3) What kind of run time do you get on your 6s1p batts??? Guessing 6-7 mins tops?

                          4) Would you mind posting the link to the OSE "upgraded flex shaft"?

Thanks for any help in advance,
                          RW

                          4)

                            1) The 4082 2200KV only comes in a Y wind. I'm not up on the differences between the wind configurations, Steven may be able to help you with that.

                            2) Your guess sounds about right, but I never ran that configuration so I don't know.

                            3) I run 2 5000mAh batts and get 4ish minutes, but I have a long lake and do mostly WOT.
