    question with stuffing box placement

OK, get ready for the all time stupid question, I noticed the placement of the stuffing box is not at the bottom of the V at the transom that is, most other boats are set at the bottom i assume. How does this help the boat run better? I assume it is done to help torq generated by the prop?
    Your enlightenment is greatly appreciated!

Not "stupid" at all! The lower the prop is mounted, the higher out of the water the boat runs. This means more speed - but only up to a point. If the boat runs too high it tries to balance on the keel, usually resulting in severe chine walk. Mounting the prop higher lowers the boat into the water for more stability at the slight loss in speed. The best route to take is a strut which allows vertical adjustment.

Thanks, Fluid, I appreciate the reply, but I still don't understand why it is off set to the starboard sise, it is not centered. BTW, didn't mean to be rude by not responding, I really had a busy spell. Thanks!
