Hi all,

I am converting a mono hull Delta Force 45, length 36", from nitro to electric. I use a Feigao 9XL and the problem I face is that when I test the boat (out of water) at higher rpm, noise and vibration comes from the flex shaft. I repositioned the motor so that the flex shaft easily slides in the motor coupler but again same problem. The flex shaft is 3/16" and the copper tube is 1/4" and I left a gap of 5mm between drive dog and end of strut. Do you think that if I place another piece (about 5cm) of tube 7/32" in the 1/4" the vibration problem will be solved?
Has anybody faced this problem?

Just install a liner... If the cable is .150 dia. and the tube is 1/4"od... Just look at OSE for flexshaft liners.. If you want to run Liner-less get the 7-32 tube in there...

Food for thought, a 9XL is a Extreme set-up for that motor in a 36" V-hull...

What esc, batteries, and prop do you plan on useing??

Thanks for the advise. I am planning to use:

ESC: Venom 120 amp
Batteries: 2x11.1V 2200 mah 25C parallel (from e-bay)
propeller: start with 42mm

You think it will run?

The 2/ 11.1V lipos are not going to be enough mAh....Even paralleled they are 4400mAh.. You need double that for that size boat!!! You will get very short runtime!! Your speed will be 18-24mph...

I would rethink your motor and battery choice, before you continue.. I would not want to see you BURN it up the first time in the water!

The 12-14XL would be a better choice.. Really for a 36" hull, I would go with a KB45 8XL on 14.8V lipo....OSE has them instock and has a water jacket for them.. You need a Big Can Motor to push that much weight without Smoking the esc or motor!!

I would get 2/ 7.4V 4000-5000mAh 25-30C lipos and run them in a series...Along with the KB45 8XL, and 40-45mm prop... Start with a small prop, check your heat and prop up for more speed, or down for more runtime!

Thanks!! I will first start with my available equipment and then will try your setup. Thanks again.

Your problem is not a problem. Never run an FE boat at high throttle out of the water, you will not like the noise and it can cause damage. Your setup looks and sounds okay to me, although the long unsupported length of tubing will amplify the noise. What type of lubricant are you using?

To be honest I am not using any special lubricant, just normal grease for general purpose.

I use the Mercury Quicksilver brand 2-4-C Marine Lubricant with Teflon. About $9 for a large tube. This is great stuff and I use it in everything from small boats up to the big ones.
