I run around a decent sized pond in my friends backyard. He's been watching me and now has a traxxas Spartan on the way. I have a motley crew and he's already talking crap. Is there anything I can do to my mc to keep up? Any help please. I hate to neat him in his back yard but, its got to happen. Thanks for your time, jharper

try a m445 prop or a 42x55 prop the part number for the 42x55 grim racer is in your book for your boat. Then if you want to get crazy you can add and external bec to the boat like a castle 10amp and remove the red wire going into the recierver from the speedo, then you should safely be able to run 5s. And dont worry even in stock form he might get you on the straights with 6s but in the turns you will eat him alive. the doesn't really hold a candle in terms of hull design and laying down the power, not to mention you have a faster motor. Also if you want to upgrade more add the motor from the ul-1 to it. Hope that helps ask more questions about the paticular mods and I am sure we can get you going. Just watch the temps on everything, if things start going above 130, you might start needing some cooling.

Also if you read the race prep thread in this forum there is alot of good advice

I would get the hobbycity tunigy packs much better price equal or better performance
also swith motor connectors to 5mm bulletts from preferably castle creations
and you can switch the batteries to ec5 connectors to handle all the horsepower

Thanks for the link. Will 2 14.8's run parallel be too much weight? I have 4 packs but was worried about weight. Venom 5000 50c 100c burst. Maybe too much heat. If so no biggie I will grab 4 of those you sent. Don't wanna smoke it

i am not sure about the weight, but you could try it, it might be slower but runtimes would be awesome. but if you had it over propped you could fry stuff running those big boys down. just use good common sense, sounds like you are trying to do everything right.

The 42x55 sounds like a winner. Thanks and I will let you guys know how it shakes out. We have 4 buoys 250 ft straight and about 100 ft on each end. I guess you could call it a liquid indy haha.

Venom 5000 50c 100c burst. Maybe too much heat.

Just because your pack is CAPABLE of a 250A discharge (5000mah x 50c/1000) does not mean that it will actually go that high. The packs don't push out the amps, they supply the amps the ESC pulls. Same with the ESC, it does not push out 60A (or whatever it's rated at), it's supplies the amps the motor pulls. The amount of amps the motor pulls is dictated by the amount of load you put on it (ie size of the prop, or overall weight it has to push with that prop).

So if your motor tries pulling more than the ESC can provide, pop goes the ESC. If your ESC tries pulling more than your packs are rated for, they will swell or pop.

As long as you are not adding a significant amount of weight with those packs, I would say run those, they will stay cooler.

Thank you. I will run them and temp after. They are from my SC8e. If they work out great if not I will snag a few of those bigemike recommended. Thanks all for your patience and advise.

...or you could just wait for the Spartan's motor to go up in smoke running on 6S, or for the hull to split wide open when it hits anything or when he stuffs it...

...just saying...

You can't compare the MC with that plastic toy. You've already won this battle.

I tried to tell him they weren't all that but that hero video has got him hooked. I'm gonna kill him in the corners and by the time he catches me (if he runs 6s, that's his only chance) we will be turning again. Hardhead. I read about them before I purchased the mc and was worried about the overheating so I just bought a mc and a flex cable from these kind folks at ose. Gonna get a m445 for the cool weather and after some boat tuning I think I'll piss him off good.

The boat is about 5 MPH faster with the stock UL-1 set up on 4s1p 6000mah with a grim 42/55. It wakes it right up, without making the boat to fast that it will be destroyed in a wreck. I race mine in LSO with this set up, and it is fast. 4s2p can be to much weight for a 700W motor. Watch your temps...

does anyone know how the castle 1415 , 2400kv will perform in the motley crew ? is the 1515 better ?

It's hard to get th e CG back far enough with a 1512, a 1515 would be even heavier. My personal experience with this boat and having done lots of testing is the lighter you can keep this boat the better it runs, never run the CG at more than 30% and adjust for water with the strut not moving the packs forwards. If the cg is forwards the boat tends to hook/roll in turns when it gets the ripples/waves hitting the front corners.
I've actually slowed mine down, every time I run the damn thing I'm doing hull repairs, if I kept pushing the speeds it wouldn't have lasted the season!

For a stock set up an m445 is a good all around prop, a little faster and a little warmer at the end of the run that the Grim prop.
Oddly enough in rough windy conditions I've found a x440/3 to work the best. Hull seems to stay settled on the water a little better.
