View Full Version : Castle 240 Hydra ESC question?

I have been told my 240 Hydra is just two 120's wired in parallel? Could you take something like a Turnigy 120 ($50) X 2 and wire them in parallel with a signal Y connecter , programmed identical and accomplish a cheaper larger amperage ESC? Obviously not Castle quality but is it doable?

I don't think that would work, especially on startup if the two ESC's conflicted then Boom. perhaps with castle ESC's since the quality is good and all perform exactly the same, but with t120's I would be a little worried.

The Castle 240 is essentially two 120 FET boards driven from a common DSP board. The same is true for the HV series where they had up to four boards on the 240HV. It is not the same if you used a y-connector on the input lead. I would not recommned trying this.

So in reality you could rip the FET board off one and do a little surgery? or would the circuitry have to change to accept it?

Do a little research on the OSE board and you will find many similar threads - don't do it! There is a lot going on in these little buggers and tons of current that is bouncing all around.

Here is my way of building a boat now.....learned the hard way. Just spend the money and buy an ESC that is beyond what you need. If you are pulling 120 amps get a 180-240 amp esc. Running 21 volts charged , run a 30+ volt esc. Chances of ever reaching their max is very slim. Dont just buy "only" what you need. If your thinking of having to put two esc's togather to handle the power, buy a HV high amp model. You will be happy you did.
