I'll withhold my opinion until I try this out a bit. Certainly not as easy to navigate and visually, it's kind of cluttered. I think the other site was easier to see the organization. We'll give it a try...

Being and Info. Tech. guy there is always that intial reaction when we put out new softare for our customers. Darin's statement is spot on, you need to withhold judgement for at least a week and find your way around a bit before you decide whether you like it or not.

I find the light blue in the thread lists to be a bit hard to read, Once you open the thread no problems reading it, older eyes need more contrast! Grin
Other than that I think I like it, good job.
Had to check the url at first, surprised me, thought I was at the wrong site.

Agree with Darin for now. But will see how I adjust to the new format. The previous one was perfect in my opinion. Nice soft yet contrasting colors and easy to get around. This layout, like Darin said, looks cluttered. Maybe its just the strong colors that make it appear that way.

Nice looking, and I'm sure any initial clumsiness in navigating will become replaced with ease as time goes on. Heck, I remember (anyone else ?) when the forum was black and yellow !

One thing I just noticed is that one has to "go advanced" to add icons - an extra step for us "icon-o-fans" :glare:

Good article on Cruise Ship Deserts in the "Fruits" section

Well, I haven't gotten that Infernal Server error yet - so far so good! I agree with Husky about the font colors on the new posts page. A dark blue or black would be better for my eyes. But I like the new look, just gotta get used to the format.

To get to the store, you have to go through the forum. On the main forum page, at the bottom, click on OSE store (not that exactly, but you'll see what I'm talking about). That will take you to the old looking format store.

Yeah it's different alright. I'll give some time. It's a little hard on the eyes though through smart phone. I'm sure I can pull through it. It's the members that makes this site great, not just the aesthetics.

That's a strange place for it. If I were Steven, and wanted to sell stuff, I'd want it prominently on the very front page...first item...not at the bottom where we are not used to looking for it. Just a thought. The home page is a strange mixture of widgets and weird news items. Not sure what they have to do with model boats? Maybe the home page is still a work in progress?

Please give it some time. there are a bunch of things I need to change and tweak. I haven't had a pc since 7am this morning, and this pc isnt my normal one. So once I get my pc back from the evil malware thats infested it, I'll be working on the forum stuff.

Steven Vaccaro
06-22-2011, 04:55 PM
Sorry Alan, its here to stay. Lots of new stuff. Video site integration is the largest one for me. youtube vids are much easier posted and shown on the site. Not to mention at some point the old site is not going to be supported by vb any longer.

Overall, I like the new look! Just to be clear, when I said "harder on the eyes", I meant it's a lot more fatiguing on the eyes. My eyes are already bad (I use glasses for reading), and they are shot after reading a few posts. Could be the font size or the bright background color. A slightly darker blue or gray (like before I think) might fix it. Did everyone else that said "hard on the eyes" mean it in this way?

The old forum was more like a delayed chat session. A forum user will post, then a reply, at some point so many other new threads came up that the info sort disappeared deeper into the achieves.

The upgraded forum, is more content management friendly. We can make articles from threads with a click of a button. We can sort or list those important articles, making it easier to share them with other people. Because in the end the main reason we all post these things for the public to see is because we are wanting to share out thoughts and accomplishments with everyone.

Auto restore saves every 30 seconds. If you happen to have a crash, and its saved, when you go back to repost, you will see a restore auto-saved content. But its only there for a limited time.

Is there now a way to have a feedback rating like other forums? That's a add on. Once I get the upgrade fully done(the are small issues in diff places), I'll be working on getting the random album pictures and a rating system.

I haven't ezperienced that, I had a problem the other day, I went on, read some threads, and when I went back on later they were unread but nobody had posted in them.

This new web site is slow to load and locks up when changing pages. the main "home" page is slower to load because of the content on that page. You can create a shortcut to the forum board to cut out having to go to the home page.

Is it possible/ can it be made possible if you have spare time (i know you probably don't) to subscribe to a thread without posting, in case you want to watch a build but not interrupt the chatting if you have nothing to say.

You're doing a grand job, Steven.

I did the shortcut to the forums thing, loads nicely. Two questions - Can we get the smiley menue without "going advanced ? :confused1:

Also, and I'm guessing this would make things too big, could we be able attach photos to PM's ?

Click the "thread tool" button and you will find it there.

Also thanks for the smooth transition. I've seen some that have been nightmares, so good on ya for seeing this one through successfully.

No pictures in private messages options are available. As for smiles. there is now a smile button that brings up a quick popup with all of them without having to go advanced.

It is much faster than the old one.
Come to think of it, I forget what the old one looks like.
