Torque Roll - Help Please!

So I finally got to run my Spartan with the new setup this last weekend. CC1515/Seaking180A/Prather P215 prop/Stock drive line. I was disappointed to see that the boat really rolls to the right at high speed. And it's sluggish out of the hole, too (Timing on ESC is at 15). But I'm more concerned with the roll to the right. I didn't even want to keep it WOT with it sitting the way it was. I tried to move the right battery to the back and left in the middle. But I don't think it helped a lot.

Looking for suggestions to correct. Trim tab adjustments (I have 4 stock ones on there now)? Different drive line? Prop?

I found moving my strut slightly positive (up) helped the torque roll. It didn't eliminate it, but helped a fair bit.

Don't go up much, just .5 - 1mm positive should be enough.

If you are not familiar with how to do it, there are instructions in the owners manual.

Moving both packs to the left will help - if you can do it. The boat may sit a bit low on the left side at rest - but an FE boat at rest is just a buoy.....

What do you mean pop a cap?

Fry the capacitor(s) on your ESC.

It can happen, but your setup doesn't necessarily mean it will happen.

But the more load you put on the components, the more likely it is.

Keep an eye on your capacitor temps.

Use the T180, but consider running 4S or 5S setup.

The CC1515 is 2200kv, on 4S you are getting 32560 unloaded RPM. The stock Spartan motor at 1600kv running 6S gives you 35520 Unloaded RPM, so you are going to see very similar performance to stock on 4S. (most likely better because your cc1515 is going to handle a bigger prop without going pop)

On 5S you would get 40700 unloaded rpm, which would be approx. equivalent to running an 1800kv motor on 6S.

If you have already purchased your batteries, then look to a High Voltage ESC in about the 200-240 amp range. (but it may cost almost as much as new batteries)

My 1700kv 6S setup is running high 40's mph, and trust me, even at at that speed, the boat is a long ways away in a matter of seconds.

The CC1515 on 4S or 5S will provide plenty of speed to still be a blast.

Note: also remember that higher kv motors pull more amps.
Note: HV ESC's do not have battery eliminator circuits (BEC) so you have to run a separate battery pack to power your receiver and servo.

If I was to go 4S, which from my research will be cheaper to buy batteries than get a beefier ESC at 200-240 amp range, what size prop should I go up to to get that 50 MPH? I currently have a Prater 215 with my CC1515/180A/GensAce6s bats. Would a 230, 235 make up for the drop in voltage to 4S and still get around 50?

Have you ever tried the Speed Estimate Calculator found here: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/conversion.htm very handy for estimates.

An octura 642 calculates at 49 mph, prather 220 (what I'm running) calculates at 48 mph, and prather 225 calculates at 51 mph, on 4S with 2200kv. (80% motor efficiency and 25% prop slip)

I think the the 230 and 235 are getting into too big of prop. If you overload the motor you will loose efficiency (rpm) and create excessive amp draw. Not to mention potential drive line problems over torquing the flex shaft.

Are you planning on running 2 x 2S in series, or 2 x 4S in parallel??

Yes, Series doubles voltage, Parallel doubles capacity.

2 qty 5000mah 2S batteries in series = 4S (7.4V + 7.4v = 14.8v) 5000mah

2 qty 5000mah 4S batteries in parallel = 4S (14.8v) 10,000mah. Double the run time.
