Has anyone used either one of these hulls? I like the look and price but I have not seen much info on them...

I can't remember where but shortly after they came out I read a review where somebody wasn't impressed with the hull quality.
They are so cheap if they are ever in stock when I order some batteries I may get one, might be good for kids to try out at the pond without risking a real boat, I have a few spare radios and some parts so I could probably build one for next to nothing.
Could also use it for a retrieval boat.

I read a review that said no matter what they hop uncontrollably so I steered away from them

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11983 Pics! Yea, all of the ones I have seen on youtube seem to hop like crazy all the time. I just thought that was a setup problem.

It is really small boat :), but for this price is very well made. The boat is not mine, but i am doing a flex shaft for my costumer.

My brother in law has Taipan with quite fast brushless setup.
It is quite difficult to set up. It really just want's to jump and lift the nose up and down all the time.

Set of small long trim tabs sorted out that problem. Without trims it did't setle down with any CG or strutt angle setup.

I'll try to post some video of it, if I can find one with the latest good setup.

I bought 2 taipan hulls to make some races with a friend.

I have ordered turnigy 35A watercooled ESC but need some help for the motor, looking for 2040 3000-3600kv.

What do you advise?

Here is a clip of my brother in laws Taipan.
Runs quite nicely now with trim tabs and turn fins... But flips at the end :-D

Motor is 450 size Turnigy Typhoon outrunner, 1.4x 32mm plastic prop, Rhino 1250mAh 30C 3s lipo and ESC was 60A Mystery I think..

Tacon 2040 3600kv. They have others also. Trouble is its an odd ball shaft size for boats.

I own a cobra turnigy hull, it is not yet complete, but my goal is to make it work like on the Pekka L video's ;)

My set up is:
3600 kv in runner brushless with watercooled motor mount
2S Lipo 1500 mah
ESC turnigy 35A marine
Spektrum 12 gr digital servo
Orange Rx 2,4 ghz receiver

The rudder Looks like this:

58349

Looks great. Anxious to see how it performs. I am considering this hull and strut/rudder set-up.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Hank

These are very nice boats and better suited and if you have a bit to ride it. For those who ride well these boats this is often faster than you think or want. It's very hard to handle at start but when It starts then it's a treat to watch. It sure looks very cool having nice features and technology.
