Hello I am also using a

Turnigy 180 AMP Water-cooled Electronic Speed Controller.
2 X 11.1 Volt 35C LIPO BATTERIES (5000mah) & series link lead for 22.2 VOLTS in a Apparition twin hull Catamaran and was thinking of using a x442 Prop,

What would be the best Motor to use with this setup? :help:

1500kv, Motor depends on how much you want to spend. Leopards are proving to be popular + their not a bad price next to a Neu. The Leopards are also more available than Neu in the UK. Martin.

Thats to high kv on 6s, Its over 43000rpm unloaded. The 4060 motor isnt as powerfull as the 4074 but they dont do a 1500kv only a 1400kv in the 4074. Theirs a very nice 4082 1500kv that is proving to be very popular on 6s but im not sure whether thats to much motor for your size hull. Someone else with this cat experience could advise you on that. Martin.

Hi Martin, the 4082 1500kv looks nice i will have to see about the hull

But they have got a 4060 1500kv in this motor and i think this could be the one!!

Whats the max RPM i should go up to with 6s?

It all depends on the type of running you want to restrict your self to, If its s a w type running where your only going to run straight line bursts for say under 10seconds then you can go higher. But i think genarally 30,000rpm is a fairly safe area with 33,000 to 35000 max being fast but providing your not pushing prop sizes to much & s a w set up is higher still but at much greater risk. Martin.

What about this leopard 5692/1340. this is good for 29v max and 180a.. Perfect! It will try to rotate at 1090 rpm per volt so will take a decent size prop x442

Forget that range of motors their huge & are not made to go in a 32" cat hull. A number have used the 5692 in 41" monos on 6s & got in the low 50s with them. But theirs a big difference in a 41" mono & 32" cat regarding motor size. Martin.

sorry about that i didnt see the sizes 92mm long no way will i get the lid on..

so am i right to say the Leopard 3674-B/1470 motor for example is 32634RPM on 22.2v

If so this should do the trick..

How do you work out the RPM from these numbers Leopard 3674-B/1470?

martin

Yes you have worked out the rpm correct, Thats unloaded rpm by the way. The 3674 motor is going down on motor size, This would be the a simular size motor but with less kv as the original but much better quality. The smaller the motor size you can push the rpm higher so on that size motor you could push to say 37000rpm but limited on prop size. The best bang for buck motor providing its not to big for the Apparition cat has to be the Leopard 4082 1500kv on 6s. But you need to speak with someone that has experience on this hull & upgrading motors. It just depends on how fast your aiming for or only want average speeds. Martin.

Thanks Martin for the info but looking at other Threads on here it doesnt look good a Leopard 4082 1500kv its just to long, i dont understand why cant i use a

Leopard 4074/b 2150

Specification:
cells 3-6s lipo
cells 3-6s lipoMax Voltage 22v
Max Amp: 120A
Max power: 2600W
RPM: 2150KV/volt
Resistance: 0.0062
Non-load current(7.4V): 1.8A
Diameter: 40.2mm
Length(excluded shaft): 73.8mm
Mount hole depth: 7mm
Shaft diameter: 5mm
Shaft lenght: 20mm
weight: 374 gm

I no the RPM is 47515 and you recommend less than that but im using the right Voltage and Amps, can you explain what the problem with high rpm, thanks

Hi Mate, ok i have decided to go for 1 of these 2 babys

Leopard 4 pole 3674 1700KV brushless motor 2 turn Y wind

Specification:
Max voltage: 34V
Max Amp: 78A
Max power: 2400W
RPM: 1700KV/volt
Resistance: 0.009
Non-load current(7.4V): 2.3A
Diameter: 36mm
Length(excluded shaft): 60mm
Weight: 315 gm
Mount hole depth: 7mm
Shaft diameter: 5mm
Shaft lenght: 18mm

or

Leopard 4 pole 3674 1900KV brushless motor 2 turn Y wind

Specification:
Max voltage: 34V
Max Amp: 78A
Max power: 2400W
RPM: 1700KV/volt
Resistance: 0.009
Non-load current(7.4V): 2.3A
Diameter: 36mm
Length(excluded shaft): 60mm
Weight: 315 gm
Mount hole depth: 7mm
Shaft diameter: 5mm
Shaft lenght: 18mm

Do you think running 1900kv on 22.2v is to much?

Id go with the 1700kv on 6s but see what others say as well. Martin.

I'll suggest this 4 pole motor on 6s, it'll be in the sweet spot for rpm's and allow a little larger prop.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m811-3674--1300kv.html

But if it were mine, this motor is a nice size, 4065, and has a bit more power than the 3674, it would be great on 6s.

The 6s max voltage specs are more applicable to cars/trucks where the load is not as great as boats. You would have to run an incredibly small prop to stay under teh 120A rating at that RPM.

I run a 3674 in that hull and it does well. A 3674, 4065, 4074 would all do well. The 4074 1400kv is the most powerfull of the bunch there and would turn the largest prop.

Do you think i would get 4065 in the Hull the Diameter is 4mm bigger and Longer?

I doubt that the extra 2mm above and below the motor diameter-wise would not fit..........also your motor is 60mm long, 5mm longer should fit. They use the same bolt pattern, so all you would need to do is mod/grind the motor support a bit and get a 40mm water jacket.
