Well I finally gave up on the spartan and ordered a miss Geico will get it Friday I was wondering if someone can give me a idea on the motor/prop selection I have a seeking 180 esc and will also be buying new batteries I am hoping to get it to run mid to upper 50's if possible

Thanks
Brian

Yeah I gave up on that plastic thing too. I was going to get the geico or the Spartan. But choose the Spartan because it was a little longer and was supposed to be faster and better from all the hype I read before it was released. Got the Spartan and was disappointed with all it's aliments. Then seeing them fall apart left and right. I wanted to get away from the plastic toy and put my money back into fiberglass.

I don't recommend following me 100%. I put a castle 1520 1600kv in my geico and am running 6S on a t-180. The motor barely fits in here. And honestly I feel that a slightly smaller motor like the 4074 leopards would do the same and get into the 50's no problem. And be less cost and easier fit. I was expecting to get mid to low 60's on this setup with the right prop. But so far ive been just at 60 with a best record of 59.8mph on a x642. For my setup that's about right on that prop. Currently I'm working on making the boat stay on the water near 60 mph and ride like I'd want it to. I'm getting closer. But I've only run this boat 4 times so far. Each time things get better.

funny jPriami I have been following your posts on OSE while I have been waiting for the spartan you seem to have the best handle on the boat but after reading on the miss geico im glad the spartan is back ordered it seems to just have to many issues. I could not believe the video of the new spartan that the hull folded on that could have been a very expensive anchor.

Yeah that video and that day is what changed my mind about making that plastic boat do near 60mph. I know it was a faulty hull and seam that might have caused it but still. Yuck.

yes if it would have sank there was alot of money in electronics and batteries. Quick question i see they have a 4074 in a 1400kv and 1774kv version which would you think would work the best?

I'd get the 1774 kv and run 5s. You should see 50's on that.

That leopard 4074 1774kv is a beast of a motor. I hit 50.1mph on 4s in a Skunk cat that is almost identical to the MG in size. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kfe_MNsTTA&feature=channel_video_title
I toasted the esc on that run was only rated at 120amps and I pushed it waaaaay past 120 lol... stuck a swordfish 200 in there now. much better lol...

What about just running 5s on the stock motor?
it can take it and you have a S180 esc that will work great with it
you should see mid 50's with a 42x55 prop:rockon2:

Unfortunatly I have ordered 2 3cell 5000 m batteries do you think the stock motor would handle 6cells with my 180 esc??

that 6 cell set up would really be pushing the 1500 stock motor i think....it might take it and might not lol...tiquemqn has a stock motor and 120a esc and a m445 prop and on 4 cell its prob doing all it can do to get to high 40's ...... not sure he is inthe 50's yet :popcorn2:

I hit 55.3mph with my cc 1512 1800kv on 6s with an m445 so far that's my best but recently sold it and replaced it with a leopard 4082 1250kv not sure that was my best choice have yet to run it with that motor but ill have plenty of torque that's for sure. I was hitting high 40's with a leopard 4074 2200kv on 4s with a x642 didn't really play with that motor to much and unfortuanetly its on the bottom of the lake now r.I.p but overall leopard motors are really nice and the 4074 fits perfectly with no mods other than shortening the shaft a little
