Decided to true the hull and all the imperfections are visible. The process didnt take long at all to do. The red areas are the low spots. The pictures are from start to finish. Hope to run it later this week.

I'm doing this to mine during it's rebuild.

Now scuff up the paint so it doesn't stick to the water like a flat piece of glass.

Back edges of the sponsons still looks a little rounded. Should be sharp and crisp. Maybe they are and its hard to see from pics? The leveling looks good.

Still waiting on the paint to dry and then some fine tuning. This is so much easier to do than the jet skis we have done for racing.

You want sharper edges along the sides & rear of steps + a srubbed finish rather than a shinny finish. But will still run better than before you filled the hollows. Martin.

Finished the fine tuning on the hull and hope to test the boat later today.

Hope thats not spot glazing putty -- if it is take some lacquer thinner on a rag and remove it, it shrinks and is not durable, finishing putty like tec-flow, 3m's piranha putty etc is best to use on thin or shallow areas deeper areas body filler like bondo, and thicker areas dayna-glass< very hard to work with use it to rough it in and finishing putty to feather and fill the low spots, spot glaze is more for pin holes

The sponsons were blocked sanded to show the low spots. Then they were sanded with 220 grit, Bondo was applied to fill in the low spots. Then blocked sanded again. Any low spots were filled again with bondo, sanded again. Then spot putty was used to fill in and air bubble marks etc. Then the sponsons were final sanded with 400 grit. Hull was whiped down for painting with a tac cloth, sealer primer way applied, and final white coating was applied, about 10 light coats. Allowed to dry and the edges sharpened and scuffed.

Will these products work? The autozone store is walking distance from my house.
Filler and Primer

And paint over it with any color spray paint also?

bondo with hair will be extremely hard to work with, wouldn't suggest using it to blue-print the bottom of a hull with, if your building up an area like a sponson tip strakes ride surfaces etc id use it, for blue printing bottoms regular bondo will work fine, good finishing putty auto-zone may not carry but it's best to use (and expensive 25-30 bucks and up around here), if you need and the bondo is thicker than you want you can thin bondo down with fiberglass resin (both are poly) cream hardener will still work like it is supposed to BUT it will make it harder to sand!

What is blue-printing the bottom of a hull?

What is blue-printing the bottom of a hull?

Another way of saying what the pictures show. Truing the bottom. Its called "Blueprinting"

I have some fiberglass balloons. Could i mix that in with some 30 min epoxy to fill and sharpen the edges?

toyotatruckin

yes you can use micro-balloons, and tiqueman said it easiest about blueprinting, truing up the surfaces making sure everything is flat that should be and sharp where it needs to be and tuning the hull to make it run at its best (or trying to at least lol)

anyplace that sells automotive paint should have a finishing putty, napa, oreilly's,jarvis etc, hit the phone book and call around.

do you just roughen the sponson up a little so you dont have a shiny finish?
