i got a spartan in january and ever sence i have of cousre had heat issuse with the 3s with motor only no prob with the esc...yet. but first i was goin 2 add an exra water pick just for the motor or do as a couple of you have done and put in hull pick ups which look good but i dont know how good i could make them look. anyway i found a web site called kenetec racing they have in hull pick ups and better motor cooling cans so i was thinking of getting those but i dont know if they are good quality. as far as wanting 2 go faster goes i want 2 use a metal prop but i dont know what a good size is
. and if i need a new motor and esc i was thinking of castle creations hydra escs and there neu motors but there a bit pricy and i dont even know if they are good electronics for boats. i use a castle esc in my slash 4x4 but i dont know much about boats im new 2 boat s but have been racing trucks for about 3 years now. so any advise whould be good

Yes, Kintec Racing has good stuff and Jan is good to deal with.

Look to the Seaking/Turnigy marine 120 or 180 amp ESC for affordable decent quality ESC's.

Leopard, Tacon, and Castle/ Nue motors are all being run successfully in the Spartan.

nice spartan. i like the blue. and i looks like its runnin nice. i want to put in hull pick ups in mine. yea the day after i posted this tread i took it out and the motor started too surge. in literally less than a min when i got it back in the motor and the wires from the esc to the motor were already a bit more than warm so i sent them to traxxas to be repaired/replaced. i guess thats what i get for speaking a bit of good about it.

Stock motor is 3674 size (36mm diameter x 74mm length) 1600kv

You can look at Leopard or Tacon in the 3674, 4074, or 4082 size, they will bolt right in. I would recommend staying in the 1500 to 1700kv range, but some guys are running as high as 2000 and 2200kv

The higher the kv the less torque but higher rpm, lower kv motors have less rpm but more torque and can run larger props to offset or compensate for the lower RPM's, giving good top end speed.

The larger the motor the more torque as well.

Castle 1520 and 1515 are also being run successfully.

The Leopard 4082 1500kv (or new 1600kv) motors have been a popular choice. Motors in the desired size and kv range are a bit hard to find right now. You will need to shop around.

Keep in mind the HK 200Amp doesn't have a BEC (battery eliminator circuit) so you need to run a separate battery to power your Rx and steering servo.

I believe JPriami ran a 645 prop (45mm x 72mm) on the 180 ESC and 4082 1500kv setup so the prop sizes you are proposing should be OK.
