Its always good to research the home page of a manufactures parts for specs if your not sure.
http://www.leopardhobby.com/product/product_veiws.asp?id=1323&functionID=01020207
I don't see the 1774kv listed on their site but using the best guess method, placing it between the 2000kv & 1400kv I'm guessing it can run on 6S but that will be near but not at it's highest recommended voltage. So you would be ok on 6S.
I'd try out a 440/3 blade.

I wouldn't. That's almost 40k unloaded rpm. Way too much. This chart will help you. The green bar is your target rpm.

I run that motor in a 29" cat and hit 50.1mph on 4s.

Yeah I forget some people aren't as crazy as me ;) lol

And it is good practice to have lower rpms for sporting around.

a couple suggestions, observations.

The 6400 30C packs should be OK, but if your 5000 packs are only 25C you might be on the edge for pulling overload amps on spikes, especially if you try running bigger props.

Personally, of the three props you have chosen, I think that the 215 is the only prop that is practical in size for that motor. Maybe a 220. I believe that motor is only rated for 72 amps.

I will be running a similar setup, T180, and Tacon 1700kv on 6S. I am going to start with a Prather ss215, and have a ss220 ready to go that I will try after I confirm all is good on the 215. I have an Eagle tree System and will be monitoring things closely as I prop up.

I don't think OSE has specs on those motors, but I think that one may be a D wind. I would suggest playing it on the cautious side and set your timing advance on the ESC at around 3* timing advance. unless you can confirm it is a Y wind, then you could experiment a bit with advancing the timing.

Kevin

NOTE: I'm not looking to break the speed record, Once I get things trimmed out, If I can get reliable, stable runs in the high 40's or low 50's I will be happy.

Just a heads up, you will likely be on the water before I am, The spring here has been cooler than normal, and we had more snow this year, so I'm thinking we are going to be lucky to have the ice off the lake by the middle of May.

So I'm going to be interested in hearing of your experiences to help me dial things in.

BTW. I finally got the rest of my parts for my Spartan and finished it up yesterday, now just have to wait for an opportunity for my daughter to finish up hers.

I will be posting some photos later for those interested in seeing the mods. (nothing really new, they've all been done before.)

On the batteries I have, the 5000 mah are 35c and the 6400 mah are 20c the watt hours on the 6400's are 59.84... Continuous discharge is 128 amps.... And burst is 192 amps....

Now thast you have confirmed the numbers your 5000 are good, The 6400 should be OK, again if you don't go crazy propping up.

If you are looking for decent batteries at a reasonable price look at the Turnigy Nano Tech 5000mah 40 and 45C 3S batteries from Hobby King

Yeah I just was.... Those batteries really are good? The price seems way to cheap for the ratings.... About a year ago I bought a max amps battery for a rustler vxl 8000 mah 20c for 280 or so lol.... But I trust you i'n saying those are decent.... I guess if something happens to the cheaper batteries I won't feel ad bad replacing those batteries.... I'm gonna look right now at them.... Btw max amps isn't all they claim to be anymore.... Personal experience .....

Wt about turnigy 4000 mah 40c? The "c" rating is more important on boats or for wt we're tying to accomplish? I mean the run time has to be enough.... I'm only looking for 8-10 mins..... If tht.... This way things won't heat up as much and it'll allow things to cool down ....

mah is A LOT more then just ran time. mah and c rating a very important in determining the amout of amps your batteries can supply to the system. If your batts can't supply the proper amount of amps your lipos puff and or blow and other things could be destroyed also starting with the esc.

Formula is aH x c rating = amps

So 4.0 x 40 = 160 amps, to be more accurate you have to include the fact you never drain your lipos past 80%

4.0aH x 40c x 80% = 128amps.

8-10 minutes in FE boating is rare. 3-5 minutes is the typical average.

* Don't use venom batts, they are notorious for being rated more then what they are capable off and blowing inside of boats. Stay away from those in the boating world. Turnigy are better then the Venom's.

Ok thanks! That sucks though.... I have 4 of the venom ones already.... 2, 5000mah & 2,6400mah..... Ran the 6400 already no issues yet...... But do you kno the reason y they're not good i'n boats? Just do to the ratings not being true?

They can't handle the amp load FE boats can produce. In on/off road vehicles where the amp loads are much lower they are fine. Get into boating where the amp loads are a lot higher and they can't handle the amp demand.

I haven't read all the other post. Sorry for laziness, are you running 6s on this leopard 1774kv?

Gonna be ... Still waiting for parts to arrive ... I have speedmaster dual water pickup rudder , alum motor cooling jacket and I did the cooling upgrade this is all on the stock motor& speedcontroller ... Have not received any new stuff yet.... Kevin on here said that I should be fine as long ad I don't prop up tht much.... Prather 215 or 220 I made the mistake of getting a Prather 230 but didn't install it luckily he made me realize it's obviously tooooo big! Lol! And I have a grim racer prop thts close to the traxxas one tht has alittle less pitch than the traxxas one.... I think it's a 42x55 instead of 42x59...

When you start getting high up in the rpm range the amp load starts to get a whole lot higher. The s215 maybe your best shot. You have to keep things really low with those batts. Time will tell but you batts are def gonna get a work out. 6s2p would be better. You should buy 2 more of the same batts you just bought and run and make 2 sets of paralleled batts the series the whole setup together. That would give you 6s2p 8000mah 40c then your system would be less stressed.

I ran 2x 2s 5000mah 40c on my 1774kv leopard and am now going to be running 2x 2s 6000mah 25-50c nano-techs.

Sometimes extra weight isn't a bad thing. Not sure about a Spartan don't/never owned one.
