View Full Version : Stock strut and grease leaking fix

Putting another idea i had to the test today. When you run the Spartan with the stock strut and flex cable and grease it. Just about all the grease comes off in the first run. It gets pushed and sucked out of the stuffing tube. Then it's all over the front of the strut where it meets the hull. Between the gap of the hull and strut. So I figured to help keep the grease in the system you can place a rubber grommet in the gap to help seal it.

Will be trying it out later today.

Been using that idea for some time on an Osprey 41" mono, Most of the Hor monos come with a stinger that has the same gap. i posted a reply yesterday on the HK Vanquish thread that had the same problem as the Osprey as their the same boat. I make the o rings out of 6mm id x11mm od exhaust silicon tube cut to whatever length you need. Martin.

Great idea JP, and Martin.

I'll have to give that a try.

That sounds like a good idea too Martin. This is the first boat I've had with that gap being a problem. I had the idea a few weeks ago. But i was already replacing the strut on mine so i never tried it. So i figured it would be good to try in this other Spartan. I figured I'd use a grommet because it would be a little more malleable. I did think about using hose or tubing at first.

Great minds think alike.

ic engine silicon from any model shop is very pliable stuff & squeezes nice + whatever size gap you simply cut to length. Martin.

The rubber grommet seal worked great yesterday. Got back and pulled cable and it still had grease on it. It even had some inside the strut so that's a lot better. Before no grease was ever staying in the strut itself. And that can cause the bushing to wear out quicker. :thumbup1:

Excellent

I have an assortment of grommets on hand, hopefully I have a couple that are the correct size.
